Flut - Stones That I've Chiseled [Aut Records 114]

Put out on the circuit via the Italian Aut Records imprint in October of 2k24 is "Stones That I've Chiseled", the latest six track album release cooked up by Flut - a trio comprised of Christopher Kunz, Isabel Rößler and Samuel Hall. Over the course of this full length, limited to 200 copies vinyl LP the trio explores a stripped down instrumental setting built on saxophone, contrabass and drums / percussion only, starting with the lively exploration of "Driplines" which serve almost classic melodic meanderings atop a rather wild and complex, ever tumbling foundation of drums before "Glimmung" caters a rather vintage and urban take on Jazz Improv, preferrably to be consumed - and performed! - in smokey basement bars before the extended "Zuflucht Für Die Ewig Suchenden" weighs in a rather naturalistic and slightly subdued approach, somewhat even evoking subconscious memories of shamanistic rituals and ancient healing procedures in its extended intro sequence. On the flipside we see "You Don't Have To Leave - Yet" weighing in laid back and relaxed sax meanderings backed and complemented by calm bass accents and percussions buried deep within the mix before further evolving into a whirling Improv affair whereas "It's Already Out There" not only offers some common knowledge in its title but also reconnects with the lively opening piece musically, the thundering drums and percussions included, whilst the closing cut that is "When Shadows Become Real" is digging into longing, yearning and emotional Jazz melancholia for deep contemplative nocturnal thinkers preferring late night listening sessions accompanied by high quality high octane spirits and therefore probably turns out to be our favorite cut on this album. Go check.
