Monopass - Sounds Real [Umland Records 064]
Put out on the circuit via the ever expanding German Umland Records label on November 15th, 2k24 is "Sounds Real", the first full length album outing by the synthesizer-, theremin- and live processing-based artistic conglomerate operating under the name of Monopass. Comprised of Oxana Omelchuk, Luis Antunes Pena, Mark Polscher and Florian Zwißler the electronic ensemble serves two extended pieces on this one - "Rea Ranch" and "Sonara Junction" - which both embark on a dedicated journey into the realm of experimental electronic music with the A-side fully indulging in dense and ever bubbling atmospheres reminiscent of damp alien swampscapes densely populated by swarming metallic insects and other curious, yet unknown critters before further evolving into a stripped down take on Deep Listening Music and minimalist Ambient informed by both modular and electro-acoustic techniques only to end in a captivating whirling climax of densely layered sounds. On the flip Monopass are weighing in a more intense approach with an intro sequence resembling an unsynchronized array of different retrofuturist alarm tones and a swell of sirens immediately shifting the listeners nervous system into what could be described as high alert mode before adding unsettling distorted and washed out elements as well as ever intensifying tonal pitches building up to a spine-tingling peak which is slowly falling apart again, ending things on a rather deep, desolate and somewhat melancholia-infused note and therefore also ending up as our preferred cut of this highly recommended vinyl piece. Go check!

Flut - Stones That I've Chiseled [Aut Records 114]
Put out on the circuit via the Italian Aut Records imprint in October of 2k24 is "Stones That I've Chiseled", the latest six track album release cooked up by Flut - a trio comprised of Christopher Kunz, Isabel Rößler and Samuel Hall. Over the course of this full length, limited to 200 copies vinyl LP the trio explores a stripped down instrumental setting built on saxophone, contrabass and drums / percussion only, starting with the lively exploration of "Driplines" which serve almost classic melodic meanderings atop a rather wild and complex, ever tumbling foundation of drums before "Glimmung" caters a rather vintage and urban take on Jazz Improv, preferrably to be consumed - and performed! - in smokey basement bars before the extended "Zuflucht Für Die Ewig Suchenden" weighs in a rather naturalistic and slightly subdued approach, somewhat even evoking subconscious memories of shamanistic rituals and ancient healing procedures in its extended intro sequence. On the flipside we see "You Don't Have To Leave - Yet" weighing in laid back and relaxed sax meanderings backed and complemented by calm bass accents and percussions buried deep within the mix before further evolving into a whirling Improv affair whereas "It's Already Out There" not only offers some common knowledge in its title but also reconnects with the lively opening piece musically, the thundering drums and percussions included, whilst the closing cut that is "When Shadows Become Real" is digging into longing, yearning and emotional Jazz melancholia for deep contemplative nocturnal thinkers preferring late night listening sessions accompanied by high quality high octane spirits and therefore probably turns out to be our favorite cut on this album. Go check.

Massimo De Mattia - Resonance [Aut Records 121]
Coming in via mail from Italy recently is "Resonance", the new, January 29th, 2k25 released album by Massimo De Mattia. Put out on the circuit via the ever growing label that is Aut Records the ten pieces and roughly 32 minutes spanning longplayer was recorded in its entirety at a location named Mako Of Cordenons, an ancient and long time abandoned industrial complex originally built for cotton processing at which Massio De Mattia performed solo on flute and found objects, just by himself and without any audience present. The result of this adventurous venture is without a doubt an eerie one in which the ever present and presumably vast spaces to be found in the former industrial site play as much of a role than the actual music itself, a combination of wandering, oftentimes improvised, lively and somewhat enchanted melodies and randomly occuring industrial 'percussions' - hard hitting bursts of kicked bricks, rocks and concrete, clattering metal sheets and brutalist noises, at times evoking echoes of memories of Avantgarde Jazz and early Einstürzende Neubauten at the same time, at other points and especially in the title track "Resonance" filled with longing melancholia and the wondrous nature of curious, yet giddy pixies and other magical creatures of rather shy nature whereas "The Smell Out Here" presents a rather thrilling back and forth between high frequency flute sequences, scraping metal and stones, cluttering litter and an overall Avantgarde-leaning cut-up feel whilst "Burnt Plastic Bodies" pairs rather unsettling, earth-shaking metallic quasi drums and short whipping hollow hits with deep, emotionally touching melodies seamlessly leading into the rather oriental "Nowhere To Hide" just to name a few. A highly recommended take on improvised, location-based Avantgarde Jazz this. Go check.

Sascha Müller & Das KNO [Proper Baby Cuts 001]
Scheduled for release in April 2k25 is the first sonic outing of a new lathe cut label named Proper Baby Cuts which, according to information we acquired, sets out to release a series of hyperlimited 7" releases which might be considered unobtainium even by extremely dedicated collectors of electronic music rarities. On the A-side of this forthcoming release we see Sascha Müller & Das KNO unearth "The Invisible Man", an unreleased collaboration from more than two decades ago which fuses beautifully hovering Athmospheric Drum'n'Bass pads with complex, probably slightly experimental and - by today's standards - unusual beat structures which were way more common when the genre itself used to be less formulaic in the mid and second half of the 90s. On the flip we see Das KNO "Direktivebrot *Sascha Müller Edit" provide more of a high speed take on highly experimental Lo-Fi Drum'n'Bass meets DarkJungle flirtations backed by organic Bristol basslines and continuously changing, ever evolving Drum'/ Drill'n'Bass beat madness which, for reasons known, evoke fond memories of beloved and legendary underground releases like Paper Tiger's "Politische Semantik I" and similar goodness. One for those in the know.

Sascha Müller - Rumble In The Jungle [Proper Cuts Recordings 006]
Another highly limited lathe-cut release put out on the circuit via Proper Cuts Recordings on February 7th, 2k25 is Sascha Müller's "Rumble In The Jungle", a one-sided and hand-cut 10" outing which only a handful of avid collectors and electronic music nerds might ever see in person. The sixth release on the label sees Mr. Müller in a well proper, pun intended, dancefloor mood, weighing in a reduced - not: minimal - take on highly functional and tool-oriented Techno clearly speaking to those following genre greats like Robert Hood or Jeff Mills with its clean 'troity hyperfuturism and distinct filter works which provide enough variation to keep the crowd going for hours at high speeds in dark places, attacked by a barrage fire of strobes, swaths of fog and a sound system able to turn every single tone into a physical experience. Techno in its purest form.

01. Iam JDP - Now Eh! *Mental Inertia Remix By Sascha Müller & baze.djunkiii [Freebreakz.FWD 002]
See release announcement for details...
02. FEX - Subways Of Your Mind [The Outer Edge 028]
Once dubbed 'the most mysterious song on the internet' FEX's 1983 demo "Subways Of Your Mind" is now finally available on 7" vinyl, transferred from original cassette tape and remastered by Frederic Stader. Still raw and charming, fusing 80s PopRock with elements of early Goth, SynthPop and PostPunk and quite a seductive melodic sensibility whereas the additionally unearthed "Heart In Danger" attempts to dive deeper into Goth x SynthPop territories whilst delivering another highly captivating hookline which provides an idea of what a - maybe even mainstream-leaning - phenomenon the band probably could've become throughout the 80s if they hadn't vanished into obscurity after their first demos.
03. Deadbeat - Pressure Double Down EP [Echochord 095]
Nearly 25 years into his career and still going strong Scott Monteith a.k.a. Deadbeat delivers three extended and dubbed out cuts with especially the lively and positive "Too Much Pressure" evoking memories of early Kompakt days with its take on stripped down House grooves whereas "Rattle The Roof Down" explores the deep and trippy Electronica Dub fusion aspect of Deadbeat's work we've loved and appreciated since day one. Pressed on brown marbled vinyl.
04. Peter Rehberg - Liminal States [Editions Mego 315]
Previously unreleased soundtrack work by Mego / Editions Mego founder Peter Rehberg who dives deep into droning, glistening and slowly evolving glacial midrange Ambient structures and a calm ebb and flow of Deep Listening Music at times even reminiscent of spiritual and ritualistic South East Asian medidations and healing echoes of what was once known as New Age music as well as, deep into the two-side-spanning composition, thundering low frequency movements and dramatic Cosmic synth sweeps and modulations.
05. Zark [M0N0 - 1]
See review for details...
06. Fresh & Low - Wind On Water [Rawax Tresures 005]
Originally released via Guidance Recordings all the way back in 1996 this 2k25 reissue brings back stripped down House grooves, deep pads and carefully selectred vocal snippets for intimate club settings and late night workouts attended by dedicated music lovers carrying nothing but vibes and no cell phones.

FBFWD002: First Store Reactions Incoming
A week after we released the second one-sided 7" vinyl single on our Freebreakz.FWD label we're seeing the first store reactions coming in.
Berlin's famed Hardwax store describes this release as
"Mind-bending, glitching Footwork / Juke / Bass / Drill hybrid Global Bass madness"
Buy from Hardwax!
Whilst Juno Records in the UK provides a detailed review stating:
"Heavyweight global fusion... This vinyl only release began on a South African label (Sneja), was composed by a Colombian artist (IAM JDP) and is now being remixed by two respected German producers Sascha Muller and baze.djunkiii. That's before we even get to the actual sonic melting pot. Spacious and intoxicating, doffing its cap to Jamaican soundsystem, US footwork sounds, Latin Baile and South African gqom elements in the percussion and fat dollops of Bristolian bass; Sascha and baze have cooked up something super special here. Limited and unifying."
