03.10.2024 baze.djunkiii presents The Secret Garden Volume 2 @ Radio Flouka / Paris, France

The Secret Garden. A place to chill. A place for deep listening. And a place for experiments. Hamburg-based Radio Flouka-resident baze.djunkiii once again explores the fringes of the electronic music spectrum, working his way from ethereal, wafting Ambient dronage to classic IDM x ChillOut fusion tracks and atmospheric echoes of Downtempo abstractions as well as playful, tongue-in-cheek Electronica and even traces of Dub and Broken Techno for advanced late night dancefloors and beyond. This is a trip.

Clizia Miglianti / Angelo Petraglia - Visions: Homage To William Blake [Aut Records 112]

Released via the Italian label outfit Aut Records on September 18th, 2k24 is "Visions: A Homage To William Blake", the latest conceptual album conceived by vocalist Clizia Miglianti and piano player Angelo Petraglia who, alongside a set of contributing artists and musicians, embark on a sonic journey aiming to bring to life the poetic vision of William Blake in a realm different from poetry and literature, yet embedding excerpts of his original work within the compositions. The result of this approach is a twelve piece album rolled out over roughly 44 minutes, opening with tender, emotional and most beautiful piano ballad that is "Infant Summer" followed by the equally beautiful and romantic "The Fly" presenting a rather perfect amalgamation of Miglianti's velvet voice, sparse piano melodies and both echoes of Jazz as well as Broadway romance drawing inspiration from the era of monochromatic cinema, both paving the way for things to come like the elegic and dreamy rural romance of "Never Seek To Tell Thy Love", the midrange-drone backed ethereal beauty of "The Song Of Los" as well as the large scale panoramic instrumental interlude "The Reunion Of The Soul And The Body", the slightly Modern Classical-infused quasi-Spoken Word piece "I Fear'd The Fury Of My Mind" whereas the closing "Ah! Sunflowers" indulges in lush layers of strings and late summer melancholia as a backdrop for hovering, floating and timeless vocals just to name a few. One well poetic album to share with a loved one over many a candle-lit listening session.

Kubri - Due [Aut Records 113]

Scheduled for release via the ever active Aut Records label on October 4th, 2k24 is "Due", the sophomore album outing for the Piacenza-based Italian quartet that is Kubri - and their first album officially signed to a label considering the fact that their 2021 firstling was self-released, -funded and -distributed by the group on their own. Now embedded in a more structured and professional setting Andrea Cravedi, Nicola Perricone, Riccardo Cavicchia and Vittorio Solinas set out on an eight tracks and roughly 40 minutes spanning sonic journey, embracing musical influences including, yet not limited to, Psychedelia, Jazz, PostRock and others to create a very own sonic landscape opening on a romantic, and naturalistic tip with "Amado Mio" which, in its tender and peaceful tone, perfectly reflects late mediterranean evenings whereas the subsequent "Bolsa Da Gatos" is driven by well funky bass figures and lively drums providing rather interesting acoustics within the vicinity of the recording space whilst pieces like "Spinasanta" might hit hard on rural, melancholia driven and Jazz-informed dancefloors, the miniature cut that is "Asa Nisi Masa" fully explores tender, yet spatial PostRock vibes backed by all and ever embracing organic subs and therefore might be one of our personal favorites on this longplayer whereas the closing cut "Esche Vive" focuses on intimately plucked guitar minimalisms for late night listening sessions backed by echoes of FutureJazz just to name a few. Quite a tender one, this.

Hugo Race & Michelangelo Russo - 100 Years [Gusstaff Records]

Scheduled for release on October 11th, 2k24 via the Poland-based Gusstaff Records imprint is "100 Years", the latest collaboration album recorded in a two day stint in late 2k23 by Hugo Race and Michelangelo Russo. Both accomplished musicians in their own right their sophomore duo collaboration draws inspiration from raw and partially twangy Blues and DeltaBlues which are fused with what seems, at least at first glance, the polar opposite of the genre - electronic textures. But as the old saying of 'opposites attract' proves right once again we see the guitar and vulnerable vocals of the opening track "100 Years" float effortlessly atop of washed out electronic atmospheres and what can be best described as a fusion pulse comprised of late late night DeepHouse infused by elements of Romantic House x SlowHouse and DubTechno whilst "Lost Children" is as haunting and atmospheric as its title suggests before the subsequent "Somebody Help Me" and its slow continuous rhythm signature take the listener on a literal (road)trip crossing dry, barren lands and lonely, dead straight highways for miles on end. Furthermore "Earths Answer" provides almost Ambient-infused textures and echo'ing guitar minimalisms alongside an intimate vocal performance, the "War Outside My Window" is surprisingly calm and inward-looking and evokes memories of being in a psychedelia-induced dream state of sorts with its playful guitar solo improvisations whereas the precisely sculpted drum sounds and repetetive synth pulse of "Eternal City" bring a certain darkness and hypnotic intensity to the table before the closing cut that is "Golden Times" provides instrumental closure in a peaceful, slightly kitsch-driven and almost esoteric, 80s-leaning manner for those who still remember terms like Muzak and EsoAmbient for a reason. Defo a recommended album, this.

Paul Collins / Patrick Müller / Thierry Müller / Quentin Rollet - Correspondant A Une Lettre [Bisou Records 023]

Another fresh album released by the French label Bisou Records as their cat.no. 023 on September 6th, 2k24 is "Correspondant A Une Lettre" which sees a quadruple set of renowned experimental musicians - namely Paul Collins, Patrick Müller, Thierry Müller and Quentin Rollet - collaborating over the course of five tracks and a total duration of roughly 59 minutes, all recorded and conceived within a one-day studio session in December of 2k23. With the album artwork pointing towards Jazz in some form or the other we see the quartet embarking on a journey into the realm of spatial Deep Listening Music defined by reverberating single guitar and bass tones backed by ever thickening electronic atmospheres, experimental drones and krautsy Post-PostRock infusions in the opening piece "Mot Introuvable", surprisingly turning towards late night Future Jazz after running its course for approximately eight minutes before it's followed by the tentative, somewhat meditative rhythms and epic Cosmic synth architecture of "La Grande Difference". Furthermore the title track that is "Correspondant A Une Lettre" provides enchanted experimentalism touching both base with score-like Ambient textures and Contemporary Avantgarde Jazz explorations whereas "Faire Revenir" serves an amalgamation of probably mostly unprocessed direct recorded rhythmatic experimentation and mechanical air flows fused together by tender electronic textures and FreeJazz x Free Improv informed saxophones before the closing cut "Une Bouteille Entamee" provides a well calm and peaceful closure with its sustained, melancholia-inducing take on late night Future Jazz. A well interesting and worthwhile listening experience, this.

Jerome Lorichon / Thierry Müller / Quentin Rollet - Night In Red Satin [Reqords 015]

Released on August 26th, 2k24 via Quentin Rollet's very own Reqords label is "Night In Red Satin" which sees the Paris-based saxophone player and composer teaming up with fellow musicians Jerome Lorichon and Thierry Müller for a triple collaboration affair which, in its entirety, spans a total of two extended parts and an overall runtime of roughly 29 minutes. Opening on a minimalist, yet almost enchanted and mythical tip the triplet of sonic collaborators closes in on what might be widely referred to as Contemporary Avantgarde Jazz by the means of carefully stacking layer after layer of electronic atmospheres, plucked guitar strings, electronically processed saxophones alongside curious and playful naturalistic sax tones, ghostly, haunted and otherworldly sounds and stripped down, skeletal and echoing, somewhat swampy Electronica remnants, all combined in a rather non-linear, yet slightly score-oriented manner filled with tension and relief, infused with elements of Ambient and Deep Listening Music and - naturally - a ton of, in parts melancholic, improvisational sequences drawing inspiration from both Jazz and electronic experimentalism. Quite an intense and widely varied album which requires multiple dedicated listening sessions to reveal all its hidden details.

Sury-Tanuki - L'index L'echeur [Bisou Records 022]

Released via the Paris-based Bisou Records label on September 6th, 2k24 is "L'index L'echeur", the eighteen tracks and roughly 51 minutes spanning collaborational album effort created by electronic music producer x engineer Tanuki and illustrator x singer and overall artistic figure Caroline Sury which - alongside a few other album releases - arrived at our premises recently. Sonically this collaborative effort, accompanied by a Caroline Sury's highly detailed take on complex artwork, explores an intricate realm of (Neo)Cosmic x early Synth leaning spatial ambience with a slightly retrofuturist twist, backed by tender Spoken Word lyricism, progresses into playful Glitchtronica, atmospheric crackles, sound collage works and what seems to be electroacoustic tape manipulation as well as hyperchromatic Electronica abstractions, expertly arranged minimalist bass harmonics, dreamy, piano-infused Clicks'n'Cuts and many a thing more - all alongside a steady stream of probably associative Spoken Words, ofc. A highly recommended album affair for both lovers of (French) poetry, experimental electronic music and all things remotely Avantgarde and art-related, this. Go check.

01. Zed Bias ft. Yung Saber & Brakeman - Shell Them Again [IFG Records 005]
What a bang0r. Zed Bias shells out another anthem on his new label IFG - for: 'i feel good' - Records and caters a lovely MC-led UK Garage vibe which presents a new take on a classic soundsystem lick for a chorus x hookline on the A-side whilst Safire and the man Zed Bias himself go down on a hard hitting Grime tip with the collaborational rework on the flip, bringing back beloved memories of the genres early years due to its heavyweight crime scene x gangsta approach. Major tunage.

02. Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge - Neulust [Lustpoderosa 021]
Joshua Gottmans and Niklas Wandt are Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge. With their new five track EP release on the Swiss art x conceptual imprint Lustpoderosa the duo presents a thrilling amalgamation of New Beat, Agreppo, Spoken Word art school flavors, echoes of Minimal Wave, classic Electro x TechnoBass and lo-fi Balearic slo-mo Techno which fall together in a quite unusual, unique and highly exciting manner which makes their "Neulust EP" a worthwhile addition to the collection of every thrill seeking DJ out there.

03. Recall IV - Interstate [Mecanica 085]
Once again the Polish Mecanica label is in for a deep dive into the history of early electronic club music, exploring the grey area between NuBeat, Agreppo, ProtoTechno, EBM and Rave with this 16 track compilation album dedicated to the works of the highly influential project Recall IV which, especially due to the incorporation of major hits like "Contrast *Boing Mix" or "Aesthetic", both influential to yours truly as a young dedicated teenage raver, and other tunes like "Bass *Remix", "Aesthetic Part 2" or the ethereal Electro x EBM crossover piece named "Far Away From My Own Land" qualify this one as an important addition to any electronic music fans vinyl collection immediately.
