Pericopes + 1 - Good Morning World [Losen Records]

Scheduled for release on September 27th, 2k24 via the Oslo-based label named Losen Records is "Good Morning World", the new, forthcoming and roughly 49 minutes spanning album by Pericopes + 1. Over the course of nine brand new compositions we see the group, led by sax player and composer Emiliano Vernizzi for pretty much an entire decade by this point, presenting a rare and unmatched vision of Contemporary Jazz, opening on a calm, only two minutes long take on Ambient Jazz melancholia yet immediately connecting to the high tech age via samples taken from one of the most iconic and influential science fiction movies of all time in "Logout" before drifting off, accompanied by Anais Drago, into a "Cosmic Nirvana", truely a syncopated, uptempo, yet still slightly melancholic piece which seems to incorporate both elements from the Oriental / Arab world as well as echoes of action-laden high speed chase scenes from spy movies of yore whereas "Liturgico" presents the trios vision of perfectly executed and emotionally touching late night romanticisms in Jazz with "Rue Sedaine Metavers" following on a similarly tender and deep path whilst working its way up to fascinating climax which, from our point of view, sounds as much as a soundtrack for inner city life like Lemon D.'s "Urban Style Music" did Drum'n'Bass-wise all the way back in 1995 whereas "The Dawn Of Algo-Rhytm" mainly focuses on intimate, yet lively piano works and Spoken Word samples seemingly taken from a news report or documentary of sorts before the concluding title track "Good Morning World" provides more captivating Urban Jazz dynamics for a closing just to name a few. As urban as a Contemporary Jazz album can get. Go check.
