NAOM - Radici [Aut Records 105]

Released via Aut Records on February 28th, 2k24 is "Radici", the most recent album outing cooked up and conceived by Nazareno Caputo and Omar Cecchi under their shared musical alias that is NAOM - with the name of the project being comprised of the combined first syllables of their first names. Over the course of seven brand new pieces and a total runtime of roughly 58 minutes the duo explores a sonic realm set up by percussions, various percussive instruments as well as the vocal-percussive technique known as konnakkol, entering a free floating dreamstate with the MetaJazz approach of the opening piece that is "Mishra" which finds is continuation in the stripped down nocturnal Future Jazz of the 15+ minutes spanning "FAB Suite" which evolves into a complex structure of intricate polyrhythmic layers over time. Furthermore "Reminiscenze" caters an eerie innate tension which evokes memories of classic psycho horror flics of the past, "Mutazioni" engages in tender, carefully arranged Jazz minimalism before the relatively short "Grovigli" brings forth a proper late night groove and probably the most traditional approach to using a drum set on this longplayer, "Preghiera" explores playful melodic percussive progressions to an extended degree and the closing cut that is "Trasparenza" finally rounds things off with unsettling atmospheres, spooky, off-kilter sounds and ghastly repetitive rhythms that could eventually be bait laid out by a poltergeist one doesn't wanna encounter for a reason.

01. New Scene - Waves [Mecanica 080]
We know a major re-issue when we see one. Originally released in 1992 "Waves", the sole and singular album album by Arno Müller and Markus Barth's studio project New Scene, perfectly showcases the development of Techno and Rave in Germany in the early 90s, still incorporating elements of Agreppo and EBM probably best represented by the moody slo-mo Trance vibe of "The Whale", yet already gravitating towards seductive synth sequences and motifs for hyped, strobe-lit dancefloors with undeniable bangers like the hefty uptempo Rave cuts "PSG 22" and the eerie, spine-tingling "The Walk" whereas tunes like the title track "Waves" provide hypnotic grooves and captivating melodies for late night / early morning crowds and "Machine" weighs in positive, uplifting and "Tubular Bells"-referencing sequences for ecstatic Breakbeat Trance crowds. Plus: New Scene's major hit and most important 12" single release "Tonight" is featured on here, too.

03. Orlando Voorn - Bite Before You Bark Remix [TempoDubs 001]
Quite an unusual release for Orlando Voorn on the new Tempo Records offspring Tempo Dubs. Over the course of five tracks the Dutch producer caters a fascinating melange of wonky, BigBeat-infused Electro, lively and playful Electro minimalism with a tongue-in-cheek twist, rhythmic experimental repetitions alongside stripped down melodies and bubbly synth evolutions as well as deep junglistic Breakbeat action, all pressed on precious clear vinyl for the more adventurous DJs out there.

Set for release via Proper Cuts Recordings on March 22nd, 2k24 is "Cryptocons", the latest and forthcoming musical outing by Uelsen's best kept secret a.k.a. Sascha Müller. Once again to be put out on the circuit as a highly limited lathe cut edition of only a handful hand-cut 10" copies available to a selected circle of DJs and collectors the one-sided release sees Mr. Müller on a pounding relentless Techno tip, causing major damage to peak time dancefloors with highly compressed uptempo bassdrum pressure in combination with stripped down futuristic synth loops, expertly executed filter action and a proper, absolutely unphased no bullshit attitude for all real Techno heads out there. Heavy.

Circles 44 - In The Grip [Aut Records 103]

Released on the Berlin x Italia axis label Aut Records on January 31st, 2k24 and following up to the groups album named "Cratere" is "In The Grip", the sophomore longplay effort cooked up and conceived by Circles 44. Released roughly four years after their firstling we see Massimiliano Amatruda, Joseph Circelli and Andrea Grillini being joined by Achille Succhi on various clarinet iterations on this roughly 49 minutes spanning collection of eight new pieces, opening with the tender, yet ever spiralling and explorative "Spiral Dance" which sets the tone for the Jazz explorations to come with its rhythmic, evolving and undeniable funkiness before "1005" dives deep into lively late night Jazz drama for uptempo connaisseurs. The albums title track is of a slow, yet muscular nature weighing in crime scene vibes and heavy resonating piano chords alongside sparse, yet expertly placed drums and extended clarinet solos, "Gate" offers playful and tentative layerings of corresponding rhythm signatures whereas "Circles" sees the ensemble explore late night Jazz backed by carefully arranged piano movements and an intricate, ever corresponding melodic interplay between the protagonists which culminates in a dramatic finale. Furthermore "Line (First Approach)" caters a deep and rather minimalist approach to the free form evolution of the groups sound before building up to climactic heights, "The Affirmative Dot" opens with sequence a of plucked, electronically processed strings as a backbone for large scale romanticisms and intertwined uplifting melodic layerings before the cryptically named closing cut "A.A. 1942" provides the most solemn and nocturnal feel and probably could be filed under the flag of Jazz Noir for a reason. Quite a deep one, that last track is.

User17883214582 - Fukker EP [User Recordings 056 Promo]

Released digitally by the still mysterious User Recordings label on December 29th, 2k23 is the so-called "Fukker EP", the first two track single on the imprint cooked up by User17883214582. Opening with the classic to be that is called "You Cock Fukker" we see User17883214582 on a raw, unprocessed, yet uplifting ProtoHardcore x DarkRave tip causing major mayhem on fogged out and laser lit dancefloors whereas the subsequent mobile communication referencing "5G" weighs in a similarly raw and Oldskool Rave-leaning vibe, yet employs more of a stop-and-go leaning approach backed by a strangely melodic, yet weirdly twisted and over the top synth motif and undeniable Acid brutalism in its second half. We'd bet that especially the second tune is the result of a wild and excessive late night jam session that could've worked teknival crowds to the max. Madness.

Andreas Davids - The Inability To Be Happy [Inner Demons Records 166]

Once again put out on the circuit via Florida-based Inner Demons Records is "The Inability To Be Happy", the latest, limited to 42 hand-numbered copies 3" CD-r release edition by Andreas Davids, probably better known to many under his Industrial x EBM x HardTechno guise that is Xotox. Released on February 14th, 2k24 the sole and singular, albeit 20 minutes spanning title track sees Andreas Davids serve an amalgamation of deep, droning and strangely comforting Dark Ambient melancholia, cold atmospheric crackles, echoes of echoes of Clicks'n'Cuts and - most surprisingly - short outbursts of angelic, ethereal and outerworldy choir layers as well as monotonous and therefore time-dissolving single tone repetitions and minimalist Electronica structures which all fall in place to provide a calm, solemn and slightly ruminant late night trip for all fans and followers of hypernocturnal Deep Listening Music. Get.

Xtort - Zwart [DA Records 021]

Released on January 22nd, 2k24 is "Zwart", the latest full length album outing by Dutch / German band outfit Xtort and the follow up to their super limited live album aptly named "Live In Eindhoven" from roughly two years ago. The once again scarce and soon to be sought after cassette tape album version of "Zwart" sees Xtort exploring a widespread musical field starting from the clearly Electro-infused opener which some might clearly associate with early 80s Detroit and the more vocal-driven works of the likes of Cybotron whereas the following title track "Zwart" brings forth the deeper and ballad'esque side of the projects work - interestingly and most uniquely employing Dutch as language of choice. Furthermore "No Way Out" brings forth playful uptempo Synthwave x SynthPop sonically appealing to the hyperchromatic works of producers like Fatima Al Qadiri, "Autres Directions" featuring Mach Fox amalgamates classic EBM vibes with playful ElectroPop infusions before "All In My Head" combines raw, yet dancefloor-friendly Electro vocals with heavy Industrial shouts and "Alles Kapot" featuring Yvette Winkler even touches base with folk-oriented songrwriting and acoustic guitars within the context of dreamy SynthPop or even straightout DreamPop. "This Is A Trip" provides a most brutal EBM x Industrial Rave crossover, "Die Stimme Im Kopf" takes this approach even further with adding heavy hoover basslines and a darker, brooding overall feel and the consecutive closing cut named "Elektrizität" provides ominous, The Hague-leaning and vocoder driven slow motion Electro for a trippy, if not nightmare-inducing closing. That's excellent stuff here and probably our favorite Xtort for many a reason. Go and get yourself a copy.

Voices Of The Cosmos - De Revolutionibus MMXXIII [Gusstaff Records / Eter Records]

Another fresh longplayer put out on the circuit via Gusstaff Records, this time in collaboration with Eter Records, on February 9th, 2k24 is "De Revolutionibus MMXXIII", the fifth full length studio album conceived by Rafal Iwanski and Wojciech Zieba under their conjunctional sonic moniker that is Voices Of The Cosmos. Rolled out over the course of roughly 45 minutes the album caters a set of nine brand new tracks created with the help of and major contributions by Torun-based Piotr Zuralski and Szymon Swarc, both well recognized and fully fledged artists in their own respective rights, and focuses on the concept of building tracks off of a set foundation of astronomical audio data used as source material for extended modular processing. The result is, probably expectedly, as vast and cold as the cosmos itself, starting from the ever spiralling Space Ambient movements of the opening cut "Ylem" subsequently followed by the expertly sculpted Electronica x IDM structures of the title track which could easily work late night crowds on Rhythm Industrial dancefloors as well whereas "Electromagnetic Pulse" provides sluggish, crackly and well eerie polyrhythms in slo-mo mode, meandering in both tempo and dynamics whilst being backed by scientific atmospheres and raw, yet curious, playful and uplifting Acid-infused modulations - an overall combination falling together as a fascinating take on fever'ish Space Tribal for fully substance-infused ChillOut areas. Furthermore "Cosmic Structures" is going back to almost classic space drones and spatial percussive grooves hidden deep in the very back of the overall mix before an extremely present stoic 4/4 bassdrum takes away a bit of the tunes overall magic, "Degeneres Res" even provides a deep and well cinematic (Neo)Cosmic episode whereas the swampy and captivating Future Tribal-infused ChillOut vibe of "Planet Zero" seems to be as elusive as the so-called 'planet nine' in contemporary cosmology. Following up is "Gravitational Collapse", weighing in a surprisingly maritime melody over a sparse rhythmic backing accompanied by what could be clicking, radioactivity detecting Geiger counters, "Apeiron" brings forth more of a classic, brittle, slightly frosty and time dissolving take on Space Ambient and the final cut that is "Cold Dark Matter" dives even deeper into cold intergalactic atmospheres for a closing. If you are familiar with projects like Axiome and x or producers like Lagowski and especially his S.E.T.I. project this one surely will be a worthwhile addition to your collection. Go check.

Roughly three years after his first guest mix contribution for the Sound Kleckse Radio Show hosted by German DJ, producer and label owner Jens Müller baze.djunkiii makes a return for a second run and another deep dig into his unending vinyl archives, providing a hand-picked selection of stripped down Minimal Techno classics and iconic Acid cuts - an essential 60 minutes extract of more than 30 years of electronic dance music history which will be aired by a plethora of web-based and FM radio stations all over the globe over the course of nearly an entire week.

Elektronengehirn - Hardware [Block4]

Released via the ever active and long-standing Block 4 imprint on January 26th, 2k24 is "Hardware", the latest album outing conceived by label head Malte Steiner under his musical moniker Elektronengehirn. Released a mere 25 years after the projects initial longplay debut on Kafue Systeme the new longplayer, catering a total of 10 new pieces rolled out over the course of roughly 58 minutes, marks a conceptual shift for the previously solely software-based Elektronengehirn which is now accompanied by a modular eurorack setup. Opening with the intense electrical mid-range droning of "Die Flieger Kommen" and the crisp, yet atmospheric Cold Ambient spheres of "Clean" which are accompanied by what seem to be warped and altered noises generated by heavy duty industrial equipment of mostly metallic nature being moved around Mr. Steiner sets the pace for things to come like the subdued recordings of futuristic hyperfluids atop quasi-static drones in "Roadworks" and the cold, pulsating and ever decaying sci-fi polyrhythms of "Currents". Furthermore "Spectral Folds" provides a chiming fusion of Cold and Dark Ambient backed by occasional robo-snares and rhytmic, ever developing synth progressions, the gnarly buzzes and apocalyptic PostIndustrial hits of "Charged" might be identified as a reference to highly abstract PowerNoise of doom by advanced listeners whereas "Signal Conditioning" immediately activates ones alarm and survival mode with a siren'esque swell slowly fading out, making way for subterranean rumbles and eerie sweeps before a, albeit slightly altered, new cycle of sonic development begins. The subsequent tribute to "The Ham Radio Enthusiasts" introduces a meandering maelstrom of DarkAmbient accompanied by an array of slightly dubbed out retrofuturist sweeps, "Gegensprech" evokes memories of tortured and abused string instruments as well as humungous subsurface vaults at times whereas the final cut "Die Schiffe Legen Ab" indeed brings forth a slightly maritime take on most beautiful DarkAmbient melancholia for a closing. Highly recommended for all fans and followers of experimental electronic music, this.

Melech / Kurek - Walk Thru [Gusstaff Records]

Also scheduled for release via Gusstaff Records on February 9th, 2k24 is "Walk Thru", the sophomore album effort conceived by Polish musicians and multidisciplinary artists Piotr Melech and Wojtek Kurek as a duo, despite having worked and played together in this specific setting for a total of seven years by now. Both long standing artists in their respective own right their second joint venture release, spanning a total of 10 tracks rolled out over the course of roughly 45 minutes, sees the duo on a rather explorative tip from the very start of the ever meandering Jazz x Jazz Noir opener "Gift Shop" and its slightly Oriental rhythm signatures, further exploring fast-paced polyrhythms alongside melancholia-inducing clarinet progressions in "Tax Office", throwing seductive echoes of South x Latin American dance music into the mix with "Antique Shop" whereas "University" provides quite a fascinating, ever changing, yet ever so hypnotic take on slightly Wolrd Music informed Jazz, probably drawing influences from Arab music at times. Furthermore the timeless cut named "Library" lives off of lively, complex and carefully arranged rhythm signatures and a quite nocturnal take on Jazz Noir whereas a trip into "Old Town" presents a final trip into complex polyrhythms and tender, yet seductive clarinet workouts for dedicated Jazz lovers and those to be just to name a few. Interesting stuff, this. Go check.

Fifidroki - Figura Dziks [Gusstaff Records]

Scheduled for release via the ever active Polish label Gusstaff Records on February 9th, 2k24 is "Figura Dziks", the latest album outing by Fifidroki which is described in the accompanying press sheet as "...a wild Folk album with a touch of New Wave and PostPunk..." which sounds pretty promising. Over the course of roughly 50 minutes and a total of fifteen new pieces Fifidroki, in parts joined by saxophone player Alek Korecki, start their musical journey with the almost festive, yearning and melancholia-inducing female vocals of "Trabka" backed by muscular ancient drums and dirty, ever meandering electric guitars followed by the straightforward PostPunk-infused dancefloor approach of "Tramwaj", accompanied by theatrical sequences, an unexpected sax breakdown and echoes of echoes of what uninitiated Westerners might interpret as communist / socialist propaganda songs in parts as well as elements of FreeJazz x Improv for an additional sonic layer. With these two tracks providing a layout for things to come Fifidroki further embark on a trip into deeper emotional territories with "Matula", one of the tunes probably heavily influenced by the Silesian Folk music the band cites as one of their influences even though this specific song offers surprisingly heavy Rock leaning riffs in its second half whereas "Figura Dziks II" pairs fever'ish arrangements with kinda 80s referencing saxophone vibes, "Czarna Rola" caters quite a captivating Rock x Folk fusion, "Skowronek" brings forth more of the groups powerful Rock sound which, in this case, would defo be able to turn large scale festival crowds into moshpits with relative ease whereas "Ruta" fuses its thundering attitude with thrilling vocal harmonies and "Nowa Aleksandria" rounds things out on a highly ethereal tip for a closing. Quite a powerful ride this album is.
