The Overview Effect - Geography And Geometry [Fonoradar 026]
Released on April 28th, 2k23 via the Polish label Fonoradar is "Geography And Geometry", the sophomore full length CD album by the ensemble x group that is The Overview Effect. Catering a total of seven tracks over the course of a 36 minutes playtime we see The Overview Effect exploring a sonic realm of classic, well uplifting AfroFunk garnished with vintage rhodes and synth lines from the very beginning of the opening tune "Astana" onwards which immediately sets genre specific dancefloors in motion within seconds whereas cuts like "Kyoto-shi" rely on a slightly Tribal-infused backbeat and relaxed Easy Listening x Exotica vibes for hot summer days and tropical nights, "Baltimore" dives deep into laid back territories and even hints a classic EthioJazz grooves at times whilst "Nowa Huta" aims at dancefloors with beautiful longing sax workouts and a certain, highly seductive swing just to name a few. If you're a dedicated Jazz x Funk x AfroFunk connaisseur this one deserves a place in your collection for sure.
