Ken Ikeda - Sparse Memory [Room40 Promo]
Released via the Australian label Room40 on April 21st, 2k23 is Ken Ikeda's "Sparse Memory", the latest album by the Tokyo-born Japanese artist who made his longplay debut a staggering 23 years ago on the highly praised Touch imprint. Inspired by Claude Levi-Strauss' text 'Savage Mind' "Sparse Memory" caters a proper ten tracks and roughly 63 minutes spanning journey which starts on a chiming and dreamy, well naturalistic and organic note when it comes to the opener "Hear Say", moves forward into what seem to be subaquatic tape loop experiments in the subsequent "Breathing" whilst playful, lively, curious and dancey Indietronica vibes are highly prevalent in the title track "Sparse Memory", "Norarikurari" dives deep into wobbly, unstable percussive Ambient x ChillOut dream states which find their even more spiritual continuation in the well psychedelic "The Sound Of Waves" whereas the aptly named tune "The Destination Of The Blue Whale" brings forth a stream of cascading, sonic liquids for a calm and peaceful closing just to name a few. If washed out, time defying Ambient is your jam put this one on repeat.
