Forthcoming on Essen's ever active Umland Records imprint in March, 2k22 is "I", the aptly named first album by the newly formed quartet  that is Tunnel & Meadow. Comprised of Jan Klare, Serge Corteyn, Johannes Nebel and Marvin Blamberg the four piece caters a menu of four extended compositions laid out over the course of roughly 45 minutes, focusing on a musical approach of a sustained repetition of certain musical phrases to create a well hypnotic stream of spiralling loops of varying intensity and slowly morphing dynamics, starting off with what could be described as a driving JazzFunk vibe in the opening cut "Saas Fee" which is intriguing enough to get hold of the entire album as a whole. Furthermore, the subsequent "Livigno" dives deep into naturalistic and enchanted flute loops paired with plucked guitar improvisations and slightly fever'ish, ritualistic drums, "Zermatt" weighs in a full on big band approach which is well astounding as there are only four musicians pulling this stunt of creating a hyper-dense, demanding and multi-layered, yet somewhat comforting late night vibe off whereas the closing cut that is "Davos" rounds things of in a much more light-hearted Jazz manner that's able to immediately set dancefloors in motion due to its highly seductive and uplifting pull. Great stuff, this. Not only for die hard Jazz headz but for any connaisseur of organic, yet spine tingling instrumental music.

Scheduled for release via the Munich-based imprint that is Squama Recordings on February 25th, 2k22 is "Happy Floating", the eight tracks and roughly 34 minutes spanning album debut crafted and conceived by saxophone player Damian Dalla Torre who - like many other musicians - took advantage of the pandemic-induced restrictions to reshape, focus on and finally finalize a bunch of rough sketches and semi-finished pieces of the past to the result of a fully flung longplay piece. Joining forces with a total of nineteen - yes... 19 !!! - collaborating artists and musical contributors Damian Dalla Torre manages to create a well coherent body of work which embraces floating and tender electronic textures as well as partially Jazz-infused Post- and PostPostRock, playful, organic and well curious Indietronica, a certain thing for ethereal Leftfield Pop vibes and echoes of echoes of Instrumental Folk alongside washed out Field Recording ambience, beatless Jazz(Rock) variations for film in "Bolzano" and panoramic Ambient Jazz for early summer mornings ("Where To Go") just to name a few. Defo a warm, welcoming and all embracing album that might be well received by fans of acts like Tied & Tickled Trio, Harald 'Sack' Ziegler & Frank 'Schültge' Blumm, Lali Puna or even Augsburg's Mycrotom although his music might be considered way more beat focused than this album is. Rizomagic - Voltaje Raizal [Disasters By Choice Promo]

Put out on the circuit via the Italian label named Disasters By Choice only recently is "Voltaje Raizal", the first ever album outing carved out by the duo known as Rizomagic which is the shared creative moniker of Diego Manrique and Edgar Marun which are aiming at a fusion of Afro-Caribbean music, futuristic Tropicalia, Cumbia and electronic sounds over the course of 37 minutes. With seven original tracks and two additional remixes crafted by Rizomagic for La Palabra and Truequeo respectively, rightfully added towards the end of the longplayer as an extension of the main body of work we see the two artists approach this well eclectic fusion with a good chunk of tongue-in-cheek humour and immanent sample madness, stirring up dancefloors with Exotica bangers like the opening piece "Noconoco", get deep into cheeky, yet seductive IDM x Future Tribal territories with their "Rizomantra", weigh in tons of uplifting Phonk in "Puyante" and go into full-on tropical party mode in "Millo Kru" just to name a few. If you can imagine a lovechild conceived in a bizarre love triangle of the first two Jeans Team 7" singles on the legendary Nadel Eins label, the former Hamburg-based band Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and the "Eclektronics" album by Jean Jacques Perrey & David Chazam causing sweet havoc and disaster in your living room you probably need this album in your life. Christina Giannone - Zone 7 [Room 40 Promo]

Another one set for release via the Australian Ambient staple that is Room 40 on January 28th, 2k22 is "Zone 7", the latest album outing conceived by NYC-based artist x composer Christina Giannone who has released quite a string of albums, remixes and contributions to compilations over the course of the past 24 months. With her new longplay outing, comprised of five tracks laid out over the course of roughly 31 minutes, Giannone draws influences from her explorations of the subsconscious layers of the human mind and transfers these into intense, glistening Ambient movements, glacial drones and slightly off-kilter harmonies which provide enlightening moments of overdrive and additional distortions whereas more Dark Ambient-leaning pieces like "Zone 1" evoke memories of the deep emotional maritime melancholia innate to productions by Kallabris whilst others might bring Tarkatak or Beequeen at their respective peak to mind or even cater an ominous, brooding and foreboding maelstrom of sound, balancing between Dark Ambient and Noize paired with a surprisingly harmonic sub foundation to provide a soundtrack for the imminent apocalypse, or moments thereafter, in cuts like the albums main composition that is "Stratosphere" which, even as a standalone track, makes this album one well worthwhile to own and Christina Giannone an artist to watch out for in the future.

Scheduled for release via the Australian Ambient and beyond staple Room 40 on January 28th, 2k22 is "For Leolanda", the latest longplay outing created by Melbourne's Maria Moles. For this album the composer and percussionist drew influences from Philippinian Kulitang music throughout the ongoing lockdown situation in Australia, musically reconnecting with her ancestral rootings in the multi-island state and fusing those with her own, more modernistic approach to composing and arranging music. The result is a four tracks and roughly 37 minutes spanning journey which is not only providing direct connections to Moles' family history and other Philippinian references in its tracks names but also directly incorporates reprocessed samples from Philippinian music in some pieces, bringing forward a landscape of calming, most beautiful streams of ethereal Ambient pads in combination with deep, chiming, free floating and improvised rhythmic motifs derived from singing bowls as well as thrilling, dancefloor friendly Future Tribal cuts ("In Pan-As") which are well able to rock crowds when integrated into advanced Bass Music festivals sets, intricate layers of hypnotic, slightly 90s leaning ChillOut / Deep Listening Music ("Mansaka") as well as more uplifting and positive, yet still traditionally influenced, ever meandering percussions accompanied by tender, atmospheric droning to be found in the concluding cut that is "Distant Hills". Masselaufwerk - Masselaufwerk [Umspannwerk Haberlandstrasse]

Released early this year throughout the first days of January, 2k22 is "Masselaufwerk", the self-titled cassette tape album by the project of the same name which basically is a brainchild of Andreas Davids, the man behind the long-standing and widely acclaimed Industrial / EBM outfit that is Xotox. With this ten track longplayer, put on the circuit on a recycled cassette tape formerly used by the 'Institut Für Film Und Bild In Wissenschaft Und Unterricht', the German underground producer explores a realm of scenic, emotional and somewhat Electro x Downbeat structures of a truly lo-fi nature which might be due to the initial use of already decaying, fluttering tape loops in production or - more likely - the slightly muffled characteristics of the probably decades-old tape material that has probably withered over all these years the original cassettes sat unused in storage. This being said cuts like "Vinyl" offer a quite charming, tongue-in-cheek take on ElectroPhonk x IDM whereas "Highfidele Eleganz" combines a highly detailed and extended hi-fi stereo system sales pitch with minimal, icy Electronica x TripHop structures, "Lagerfeuer-LoFi" harks back to the era of Glitchtronica which used to be highly popular amongst fans of electronic music in the early 00s whilst the "Loudness War" weigh in some uplifting, even dancefloor friendly Indietronics for small, intimate nightclub settings and the concluding "Endlosrille" brings forward an intriguing amalgamation of Electronica-leaning Phonk and complex, somewhat even Detroit-infused melodic elements which comes to an end way too soon just to name a few. One for the dedicated collectors of electronic low fidelity listening music, this.

Steve Roden - Stars Of Ice [Room 40 Promo]

Scheduled for release on the Australian label that is Room 40 on February 4th, 2k22 is "Stars Of Ice", a slightly extended re-release of Lowercase pioneer Steve Roden's album of the same name which originally was put on the circuit via New Plastic Music as a limited to 250 copies CD-r back in 2008. This years version, which features the original composition alongside a roughly seven minutes spanning excerpt and marks the beginning of an extensive collaboration between the LA-based composer and Room40, once again emphasizes the beauty of a slightly washed out, ever repeating harmonic loops sequence in combination with crackly surface noise as well as looped vocals in reverse, improvisationally plucked strings of what probably is a ukulele and other slightly reprocessed goodness, all slowly fading in and out of eachother over the course of roughly 34 minutes, creating a time-defying field of comforting warmth and ambience that makes one feel at home whereever one might be listening to this album. Therefore recommended. Check.

øjeRum - Støvfald [Sound In Silence 086]

Another fresh one put out on the circuit via the Greek imprint Sound In Silence on December 13th, 2k21 is øjeRum's "Støvfald", the follow up to the Copenhagen / Denmark-based artists 2019 album release "Alting Falder | Samme Rum" on the label. Described as DarkAmbient by the accompanying press release sheet the two long-form compositions on this lomgplayer - "Skybrud" and "Aftenrøde" - are both evolving over a period of 30 minutes respectively, providing an hour long journey into the realm of beautiful, longing and ever meandering melancholia with the opening A-side weighing in a rather solemn and festive feel triggered by angelic harmonies, touching choir illusions and a steady, slowly pulsating swell of all-embracing pads and layers floating beyond space, time or any kind of dimensionality whereas the flipside pairs a brooding, somehwat ominous and foreboding foundation of a somewhat droning nature with a chiming, yet washed out and slightly off-kilter five tone motif, looped and repeated in minimal, partially fluttering variations to please and enchant both true Ambient heads and connaisseurs of Deep Listening Music with a calming, truely peaceful effect. Most excellent.

Julien Demoulin - Everything Forgotten, Everything Remembered [Sound In Silence 087]

Put out on the circuit via the Athens, Greece-based Ambient staple that is Sound In Silence on December 13th, 2k21 is "Everything Forgotten, Everything Remembered", the latest album crafted by French Brussels resident Julien Demoulin and his first album on the label since 2k21. With his new longplay piece Demoulin adds another seven tracks and 43 minutes of playtime to his already impressive back catalogue, further exploring the field of classic Ambient pads and structures, hovering, beautifully washed out atmospheres and more from the very first moments of the deeply emotional opener "A Kingdom" onwards which turns into a touching array of slowly cascading loops via the warm and peaceful sound streams brought to us by the scenic "A Loss For Words" as well as the subsequent "All Around" which features additional layers of naturalist Field Recordings to the (Neo)Classical-infused melancholia of "Chinese Handcuffs". Furthermore we see the "Moon Still" on a ruminant, nightly and relatively dark, inward-looking tip, the title track "Everything Forgotten, Everything Remembered" provides a beautiful take on misty, drifting and well autumnal melancholia paired with a certain cinematic sadness before "Dissolving In Silence" dabbles with a spine-tingling ethereal amalgamation of Post-PostRock, blurred DreamPop vocals and PopAmbient for a closing, providing the first - and final - use of vocals on this album and ends up to be our favorite cut on here. Limited to 200 copies worldwide and therefore a soon to be sought after gem for all true Ambient headz out there.

Simon Camatta - This Is Not A Solo Record [Umland Records 054]

Coming in via mail from the headquarters of the Essen-based Umland Records recently and set for release in January 2k22 is the aptly named album "This Is Not A Solo Record", the new musical outing by the labels head honcho Simon Camatta who, in cooperation with a bunch of artists closely associated with the label collective like St. Kirchhoff, Moritz Anthes and others, creates a 13 + 2 bonus cuts spanning body of work whose combined tracklist forms the phrase "I / Find / Myself / In / The / Density / Of / Our / Collective / Conscience / By / Getting / To / Know / You" which in itself points towards a slighty conceptual approach when it comes to the meta thought and idea behind this longplayer. Rolled out over the course of roughly 45 minutes the album covers recordings, compositions and improvisations captured and conceived over a six months period, being intended as a documentation of the artists life covering live recordings from shows as well as improvised solos, solo pieces put together in the studio x rehearsal room a well as a variety of Field Recordings with the musical range spanning from muffled, defragmented, complex and probably digitally processed drum solos to heavy, Funk-infused Dope Beats ("Find") perfectly suitable for a live Rap x HipHop session to hard hitting, fever'ish and ritualistic madness for whirling - and breakdancing! - dervish ppl in a trance ("Myself"). Released via the Bogota, Colombia-based label that is Sub-Real on December 20th, 2k21 is "Conections 006", the latest in an ongoing series of digital singles. Produced by the underground activist known The D3VI7 this two-tracker opens with "Border", a raw, unprocessed super dry underground Acid banger with tripping, psychoactive modulations as clean as polished chrome, whereas the subsequent follow up dubbed "Oha" weighs in a way harder take on bubbling high-octane Acid madness which might be described as a dirty crossbreed of a early 90s Force Inc.-attitude and fast-paced Chicago Basement sound. Bang!

The D3VI7 - The Drill [Avaken 073 Promo]

Put out on the digital circuit via the Avaken imprint on May 17th, 2k21 is "The Drill", a single release cooked up by The D3VI7 himself. Opening with the original mix the hell'ish producer brings forth a stomping, yet somewhat muffled and heavily reverberating take on Business Techno sprinkled with AcidTrance modulations, slightly shuffled snares, white noise bursts and soft, washed out melodic pads whereas the "The Drill *P.T.B.S. Remix" pays homage to classic Hardcore / Gabber violence, yet loses a bit of power due to its slightly out of tune hi-hat x shaker programming, especially prevalent in its intro part before the concluding cut that is "The Drill *Jens Müller Remix" presents a hypnotic, well functional tool approach to dark'ish, ever meandering TechTrance / AcidTechno with a slightly psychoactive twist.

Also released on July 5th, 2k21 via User Recordings is the latest digital two track single by User44475550001, the so-called "Fever EP". With the opening cut named "Cannonball Fever" we're drawn into the center of the dancefloor by a stunning combination of dubbed out Intelligent Techno and deep floating Trance elements whereas "So Many" once again gravitates towards Musique Concrete / Plunderphonics cut up techniques with its ever skipping electric guitar riffs and weird computational soundscapes.

The D3VI7 - Eternity [Clone 2.1 Records Promo]

Released via DJ Sakin's digital imprint Clone 2.1 on September 17, 2k21 is "Eternity", the first appearance on the label by no-one less than the underground producer known as The D3VI7. Whilst the opening cut "Eternity *Extended Version" presents a hefty take on what could be described as 90s-leaning DreamTrance featuring both heavy reverberating bassdrums, mystical atmospheres as well as a well classic vocal sample which has graced and elevated many a track over the course of the past 30+ years we see Flensburg-based producer DJ Nightnoise weighing in a washed out, more psychedelic and slightly Progressive- x TechHouse-leaning variation of the original tune in his "Eternity *DJ Nightnoise Remix" which makes this one more suitable for semi-legal open air parties out in the woods.

Put on the circuit via User Recordings on July 5th, 2k21 is the "Boy EP", the new two track single release on the label produced by User33886060077. With "Country Boy" the quasi-anonymous producer is in for some hyperexperimental Plunderphonics / Musique Concrete crossover based on dry, raw crackles and micro cut-ups of ever skipping vinyl records whereas the subsequent cut named "Squirrel" provides an amalgamation of hard banging Techno, a distinct Industrial Phonk attitude and screaming oldskool Rave modulations in combination with somewhat weird, seemingly out of place Jazz piano samples which, most unfortunately, take away quite a hefty bit of the tunes dancefloor impact.

Hanzzo - Fake Raver EP [Habitat Musical Records 012 Promo]

Put out on the digital circuit on December 30th, 2k21 via Habitat Musical Records as their cat.no. 012 is the "Fake Raver EP", the latest musical outing by German underground producer Hanzzo who serves a total of three variations of the title track on this one. Opening with "Fake Raver *Hypnotic Mix" Hanzzo brings forth a well hypnotic, slightly trance-inducing Techno variation for hard pumping, strobe-lit late night dancefloors whilst the subsequent and aptly titled "Fake Raver *2nd Mix" takes on a slightly harder variation with its electrical buzzes and minimalist, ever meandering single tone repetitions. Finally, "Fake Raver *The D3VI7 Remix" shifts gears for maximum dancefloor destruction with its fast-paced highly compressed, Hardcore-bordering bassdrums, piercing main signal and busy, metallic percussion layers in combination with occasional reverberating horror samples which are truly able to scare the living shit out of the faint-hearted punters out there.

Released on User Recordings as their cat.no. 039 on July 5th, 2k21 is the "Room EP", the first digital two track single produced by User55887990000 for the label. With "Room 2" the quasi-anonymous artist presents a well uncanny combination of low end pulses, obscure FM band transmissions and static crackles paired with a dark, well sci-fi'esque atmosphere whereas "The Riff" subsequently provides a foundation of rhythmic vinyl crackles paired with chaotic Plunderphonic wrongspeed cut-ups for those who dig a fair share of dada-infused experimentalism.

Scheduled for release via the relatively young Orks label as their cat.no. 006 on January 20th, 2k22 is "Dark Walls Vol. 002", a digital six track compilation album / EP showcasing and introducing an assortment of tracks by artists associated with the labels roster. Opening with "Go Ahead" we see Hanzzo & The D3VI7 exploring the realm of precisely shaped, dark'ish and well bouncy peak time Techno with a slightly distorted, ravey twist somewhat reminiscent of certain late 90s productions crafted by the likes of Marco Zaffarano whereas Leopold Bär's "Atman" follows up with a similarly dark and reverberating attitude, yet serves an array of nervous synth sweeps for a main motif, paired up with mystical, almost PsyTrance-infused build-ups before "Dimensions" by Mr. Wox introduces a quite distinct, probably uber-compressed drum foundation and a certain monotony which is about to be appreciated by die-hard Techno and Hardcore purists. Furthermore Sinistermind's "504" brings forth a rather uptempo and futuristic approach to proper Rave Techno driven by a clean, stripped down, yet positive and tongue-in-cheek main sequence and a galloping bassline somewhat harking back to the golden era of high quality TechTrance, CDtrax' "Zelda" makes sure to please all fans and followers of deepest, most sci-fi- / space-infused Detroit Techno with its hypnotic arrangement of chiming, minimalist layers contrasted by spooky, well unsettling non-vocalisms before Giuseppe Schembri rounds things off with "Her Shadow" which is a cold, icy take on what what could be best described as HyperTrance with its crisp ethereal atmospheres and relentlessly marching drums for dim and fog-filled underground dancefloors. Released via La Bomba Recordings almost a year ago on January 21st, 2k21 was "Yakooza", a digital two track single produced and programmed by no-one less than The D3VI7 himself. Whilst the title track "Yakooza" weighs in a rather slow, somewhat mystical take on Latin-infused TribalHouse paired with cut up vocal samples, razor sharp hi-hats and ethereal, yet slightly fever'ish non-vocalisms the subsequent cut dubbed "The Tone Wheel" presents a dry, weirdly shuffled variation of pumping MinimalHouse, combining ever shifting layers of grooves and anti-grooves with squeaking synth tones and even a jazzy trumpet sample slowly evolving into the tunes signature motif over time. One for the advanced House aficionados out there.

The fifth release on the near Hamburg-based label Cheezy Crust Records sees Mint Huus coming back with their second 12" vinyl outing on the label after their 2019 debut, presenting a new, slightly more complex take on their trademark Electro interpretation which is paired with tender, melodic and slightly trancey pad layers, ever bubbling synth modulations and even occasional Acid references for dreamy, yet stripped down late night sets. If you've ever been watching shows like the HR3 Spacenight on German television as a young raver in the 90s you'll know exactly what you're in for with this one.
