The Cinematic Orchestra - To Believe [Ninja Tune]
Back on track after a twelve years period of silence is The Cinematic Orchestra, coming at us with their new seven track album "To Believe" via Ninja Tune these days which has already been announced on these pages via posting the official Youtube audio version of their track "A Caged Bird / Imitations Of Life" in mid-February 2k19. Opening with the title track we see the group providing a deep, tender and even romantic start into the album, bringing forth a stripped down variation of contemporary Soul featuring Moses Sumney on vocal duties whereas their "Lessons" seems to be influenced by military marching band drum rolls, mixing these up with a well uplifting vibe and a widescreen panoramic string section for a sweet balearic dancefloor experience before "Wait For Now / Leave The World" featuring Tawiah harks back to a seductive bedroom Soul vibe for intimate moments, relying on a foundation of large piano chords, strings and tenderly strummed guitar rhythms. Furthermore "The Workers Of Art" indulge in classic Ambient / ChillOut / (Neo)Classical territories, "Zero One / This Fantasy" featuring Grey Reverend even touches base with Indie / Folk despite being soulful and electronic and the final song "This Promise" featuring Heidi Vogel stretches out over the course of 11+ minutes, bringing forth more highly cinematic arrangements for a closing day on a terrace after a hot summers day.
