DJ Marcelle / Another Nice Mess - Too Long (Official Video)

Haunting, mysterious images and a 12+ minutes Future Tribal overdose is what DJ Marcelle / Another Nice Mess brings us with her new video and a forthcoming release on Jahmoni Music.

Jim Denley - Cut Air [Sofa Music]

This has to be a world record of some kind. After being a flute player since 1969 and at least being involved in recording music since the very early 1980s it took Jim Henley nearly five decades to come up with his first ever solo recording album on flute, "Cut Air", which has been put on the circuit via the Norwegian Sofa Music imprint in late April 2k17. Drawing inspiration from various flute techniques common in Europe, Asia and all over the world as well as the work of Celina Rokona on a flute / percussion instrument named sukute to whom he dedicates the second half of this album he lays down two captivating meditations on his prepared bass flute of a little less than 20 minutes length each, providing a naturalistic, yet minimalist tension that includes both droney as well as ritualistic moments, seemingly accompanied by free improvisations in which the artist drifts away in a flute-induced trance, closely bonding with his instrument, coming back to find peace in more intimate parts to just incorporate sequences of experimental flute (ab)use shortly thereafter. A truly unusual album this that will make up for a great addition to a lot of already advanced music collections for sure.

Dr. NoiseM - The CDr A-B-C: W [Dr. NoiseM Tapes]

Another fresh one from the mighty Dr. NoiseM is "W", the newest sequel to his ongoing  'The CDr A-B-C'-series in which he has been exploring the fascination of Noize- / Death Ambient-focused one track albums for 22 consecutive months up to this point. For this part of the series Dr. NoiseM once again opens in a more balanced, ambient'ish vein with darker aspects being present yet being outweighed by blurred melodic pads and slow moving harmonies which are present throughout the whole course of the album although seemingly subdued by waves of noisy buildups and a growling, deep bass drone pulse from approx. minute 20 onwards for a while but finally are reappearing like a blurred glow from afar, like a pale sun behind fast moving clouds whilst one senses nothing but ultimate emptiness and greyscale desparation lurking behind what to us is the thin line of the horizon obscured by wafting fog.

R U Dead 42 - Bassmorpher EP [Psychocandies 054]

Recently released via the Psychocandies-imprint is another digital two track single crafted by the mysterious project R U Dead 42. Opening things with the title track "Bassmorpher" the folks behind R U Dead 42 are aiming straight at the underground dancefloors of the world with gooey midrange synthesizers and psychic background modulations atop of stomping drums whilst the "Waveform Download" relies on a more dry variation of underground Acid, presenting a weird shuffle in its initial modulation sequence before a well-repetetive one note signal takes over and adds quite a bit of extra drive to the tune.

AlgoRythmiK - Haunted Groove

Does anyone else think 'James Bond' here or is it just us being weird?

Janek Schaefer - Glitter In My Tears [Room 40 Promo]

Scheduled for release on June 2nd, 2k17 via the Australian Room40 imprint is Janek Schaefer's new album "Glitter In My Tears" which btw is the thirtieth longplayer in his twenty year spanning career as recording artist. On this album, to which half of the accompanying release information got lost somehow in between our massive piles of an archive, he caters a vast array of 26 oftentime very short tracks and sketches within a total playtime of 58 minutes, relying on found sounds as a basic source of operation and transferring, morphing and processing these until they become rich, slowly floating streams of sad, melancholic Ambient like the opening tune "Sparkles Into The Light Of Night", tender and score'esque swells of soft pads resembling (Neo)Classical beauty like "If Only" or "Lagoon" or even piano-based miniatures like in "Looking For Love". With "Low Points" Janek Schaefer caters some droney klaxon'esque variations in brooding, cinematic Dark Ambient, "Coming To" evokes memories of Kostnice's "Finsterfelden" album for a reason and so does "Reflection Waves" whilst "Dawn Draws" draws inspiration from once again highly melancholia-induced Future Jazz / Jazz Noir and "Missing Moment" comes out as a crackly, repetetive study in looped Ambient minimalism. Furthermore bits like "Hells Bells" could be taken from the underlying score of a horror flic, "Forgetting The Way Forward" takes a dubbed out, warped step back to the Ragtime of the 30s and 40s whilst the "Tale Of Two Angels" fuse melodies, electrostatic buzz, field recorded-voices as well as unidentifiable weeps to a tense, spine-tingling effect. But these are only a few examples of an extremely varied body of work that requires repeated and focused listening sessions to embrace it in all its detail and beauty.

Official Flyer: 02.06.2017 baze.djunkiii @ Unter Deck / Munich

Yes, it's going down! Another lovely session with my m8 Belp from the Jahmoni Music camp. Glad it didn't take me another 10+ years to return to Munich again!

Dr. NoiseM - Black Noise 01 [Dr. NoiseM Tapes]

Fresh on the circuit is Dr. NoiseM's hyperlimited new musicla outing named "Black Noise 01" , a first in a series of releases that will be issued as limited to 10 copies, hand-cut vinyl records with hand-painted cover art created by the artist himself to accompany the musical mood of the record. With two tracks covering both one side of the record and which are, unfortunately and maybe due to the process of hand-cutting, significantly quieter than your usual, plant-manufactured vinyl record Dr. NoiseM explores the realms of Dark Ambient, with the untitled engraved side featuring single chords crossing over from the spheres of DubTechno whilst being accompanied by eerie atmospheres before the plain flip side gets more into a calmer, floaty and classic Ambient resembling vibe for true lovers and die hard collectors of the genre who've got the freedom to crank up their home equipment to resonable levels.

Stephan Meidell - Metrics [Hubro Music]

Fresh from the Norwegian label Hubro Music comes "Metrics", the second full length solo album released by guitarist Stephan Meidell who is dealing with a totally different musical level on this one, piling up a variety of metric and tonal layers to create a unique musical language that sometimes seems chaotic but provides a thrill to those on the outlook for the unexpected. Based on a foundation of guitars, drum machine, no-input mixer, tape machine and synths and the help of fellow musicians like Magda Mays, Erlend Apneseth or Stefan Lindvall and others providing assistance on Hardanger fiddle, baroque violin, prepared piano and more tracks like the opening "Baroque I" are bridging between clearly recognizable early noughties Electronica and a more mystic, medieval atmopshere whilst the successing "Baroque II" fuses ritualistic, percussion-resembling aspects with heavy subs and a feel of nature-bound peace and calm. The three subsequent takes "State I / II / III" take us from sci-fi robo dancefloors and hyperprecise Industrial Electronica to a more scenic, blurred and multilayered middle part before things get surprisingly organic in a deep, stripped down and beautiful take on PostRock and Indietronics. With "Biotop" the 12+ minutes spanning main track of "Metrics" starts out on a Clicks'n'Cuts resembling tip with an arrangement of individually and digitally shaped percussive bits, later accompanied by lonely guitar strikes and a slow, clockwork-like 4/4 bassdrum as well as dithering clarinets to alter our perception of space and time and totally dissolve the n-dimensioned reality our senses usually provide whilst "Tauchgang", the final cut on this album, combines a brooding, slo-mo beat structure, short distorted Noize-eruptions and a score'esque eerieness that surely is able to provide nightmares for the mentally instable. Nice one.

alt-J - 3WW (Official Short Film Video)

Dark Americana and tense cinematography for a hot Saturday afternoon. We're in for this.

Sascha Müller [Supersix Records Extra 054]

Another fresh release by the production force that  is Meppen's Sascha Müller is his fiftyfourth consecutively untitled album on his self-owned and -run Supersix Records Extra-imprint. Once again weighing in twelve brand new tracks we start into the albums journey with "All Fucked Up", a heavily distorted HardTechno tune for the darkest hours of underground raving whilst "Bianca" takes on a more stripped down, subquatic approach towards Techno and presents some soft morphing scuba stabs in combination with a slightly clumsy antigroove for audiences lost in the realms of electronic sound creation. The "Caterpillar" brings forth a Techno vision which is dry, funky and ultrafunctional like the best late 90s productions by Cisco Ferreira a.k.a. The Advent, "Chain Reaction" continues on this path whilst catering a busy main motif to the tool-loving  jocks out there, "Come Get It" gets deep into muscular Tribal- / LatinHouse territories for high octane-fueled nightclubs in NYC and the "Crackle Box I" introduces psyched out distortion waves to dry Techno minimalisms... and well weird mechanical hihat programming on top of a clean, futuristic overall feel. Furthermore "Der Schieber" is a hard banging and merciless peak time Techno affair for the headstrong, "Droid 01" introduces straight up RoboTech from a dystopian future, "Energetic" redefines MinimalTrance and super sweet 8bit melodies for 2k17 and our  "First Contact" takes our mind into a state of hypnotic, grinding MonoAcid ecstasy. Towards the end of this album "Freedom" caters a hyperseductive late night groove that touches the borders of DubTechno before "Funky Fresh" provides more of a relaxed, laid back Downbeat vibe with a muscular touch for all those liking their shit dope as fuck. Good stuff.

DJ Marky - Influences Vol. 2: A Selection Of Drum'n'Bass, House, Brazilian And Disco [BBE Records]

It's been nine years since the Brazilian DJ and national icon DJ Marky who was - and still is - internationally recognized for his massive Drum'n'Bass smash "LK" taking the UK Top 20 Single Charts by storm released the first episode of his "Influences"-series back in 2008 and now he's back with a second take, once again providing proof that he and his wide-ranged musical taste is so much more than what he's best known for a.k.a. setting Drum'n'Bass raves on fire. Coming in on 2CD format including an eclectic eighteen tracks DJ mix and a twelve track unmixed CD his selection starts out on a Soul tip with Wiliam Devaughn's "Blood Is Thicker Than Water" to go into Funk and Acid Jazz with The Pasito Allstars' "Cosa Nostra", early 90s Hacienda House when we see the master Joey Negro remixing The Brand New Heavies feat. N'Dea Davenport and catering the Disco headz amongs us with the sweet vibes of "Switch (Instrumental Version)" by Benelux & Nancy Dee. From more discoid vibes his master mix soon progresses into anthemic HipHouse / PianoHouse with Phortune's "String  Free", a remix version of Maurice's all time favorite "This Is Acid" and Hardhouse's "Check This Out" before introducing one of Detroit great influential musical disguises known as Galaxy 2 Galaxy with "Timeline", getting back into Brazilian vibes later on only return to the anthems with the signature melody of "Found Love" provided by Double Dee feat. Dany. Making a surprising yet seductive transition into uptempo Brazil and Manfredo Fest's "Jungle Kitten" from there DJ Marky paves the way for the closing Drum'n'Bass section of this selection starting with Skanna's "Find Me" and another alltime classic that is Origin Unknown's "Truly One (Remix Pt. 1)" whilst providing some true hardsteppin Bristol flavor with so called 'DJ Die Gnarly Mix' of the Reprazent uberhit "Watching Windows" only to conclude the journey with the uplifting, soulfull feel of Influx Datum's "Meant Love". As additional bonus quite a bunch of these tracks are featured as full-length versions on the second part of this album pack like the superdope Soul of Esther Williams' "Last Night Changed It All", the sweet Freestyle Funk of The Armed Gang asking "Are You Ready" and of course the dry ChicagoAcid approach of "Clap Me" by Jack Frost And The Circle Jerks. More exclusive goodness is served with the stripped down, yet pumping House groove of Cultural Vibes "Ma Foom Bey" whilst Laurentius' "Karate Samba" provides pleasure for those knee deep into Latin / Brazilian-flavored House music before Dave Angel's seminal "Rotation", btw the very first release of his very own label of the same name back in 1993, proves how timelessness and a will to experiment can go hand in hand and are still well valid after nearly 25 years. A well eclectic and at the same time well thought out compilation that oozes with DJ Marky's deep knowledge and understanding of the (electronic) music scene as a whole that should standout as a great example for all young and aspiring DJ's and producers starting out these days. Excellent.

Zeitkratzer - performs songs from the albums "Kraftwerk" and "Kraftwerk 2" [Zeitkratzer Productions]

This is news! The ever active ensemble named Zeitkratzer, conducted, directed and founded by Reinhold Friedl is continuing their re-interpretations of classic albums with a special take on songs taken of the pair of very first, and never repressed, Kraftwerk albums "Kraftwerk" and "Kraftwerk 2" which showcased the krautsiest work ever provided by the band about to become praised Electro pioneers later on. And this time we see the ensemble, that's btw celebrating its amazing twentieth anniversary this year, provide interpretations pretty close to the original as the opening tune "Ruckzuck" immediately weighs in its seductive groove and very special, yet kinda klumsy Funk that brings all of us music nerds back to an era in which the development of a new musical language was an absolute necessity whilst "Spule 4" caters a kind of ProtoAmbient meets Score meets fascinating Future Jazz vibe that's both spine-tingling and masterly crafted. With "Strom" we're introduced to mysterious, yet unsettling scraping sounds and muscular, repetetive trombones slowly shifting towards an easier, more jazzy feel before being interrupted by dreamy at first, than ever climaxing guitars of a ruminant intensity, "Atem" a.k.a. 'breath' brings us an array of ColdAmbient antedating respiratory sounds before "KlingKlang", the 17+ minutes spanning main tune, is in for a spiritual meditation about everything good that has ever happened Krautrock-wise, especially when it comes to easy feel good grooves, meandering tempos and a sort of a Bossa'esque swing. Finally we're down with the "Megaherz", entering a hellish, agitated vortex of brooding tension and imminent danger soon making way for a more relaxed, natural and calming atmosphere providing a sweet conclusion to a highly recommended assortment of re-interpretations.

Jakaszek - Kwiaty [Ghostly International]

Released in mid-March via the lomg time running Ghostly International is "Kwiaty", the latest longplay effort created by Michal Jacaszek a.k.a. Jakaszek, a Polish composer who had been inspired by an English anthology of metaphysical poetry from the 17th century for this album. Drawing inspiration both from the formal as well as the obviously beautiful simplicity of the poems featured in this book Jakaszek merged those with sketches, ideas and half-finished tracks sitting on his harddisk waiting for a final polish, further processing or even release to create a highly consistent body of work consisting of eleven tracks, catering a most mysterious, sometimes even mystical atmosphere through their brittle, oftentimes slightly distorted vocal nature spread over a backdrop of blurred hisses, gentle beats, fragile guitar loops paired with bits of PostFolk and echoes of echoes of Singer / Songwriter'esque Pop, sometimes well melancholic and sometimes a little bit more uplifting and dancey like in songs like "Soft Music" or "To Meadows", with the last one being a little more thunderous and shattered like trapped radio transmissions from a long forgotten past whilst the dreamy "Eternity" weighs in loads of captivating, ethereal fascination for a reason. Defo a proper compagnon for rainy autumn days, this album is.

Thomas Wynn And The Believers - Wade Waist Deep [Mascot Record Promo]

Put on  the circuit via Mascot Records last week is "Wade Waist Deep", the latest full length album effort created by Thomas Wynn And The Believers. Starting into this twelve song affair, which btw is their third longplay piece overall, with the muscular and captivating Desert Rock affair "Man Out Of Time" the band gives away their strongest tune straight away before going into timeless, yet a little dusted and 70s flavored RockPop for daytime radio play that we've heard a thousand times before with the albums title track, goes down the ballad'esque "Heartbreak Alley" with a glass of bourbon their hand and admits that "My Eyes Won't Be Open" in a quite pathetic, formulaic way that'll well fit into the soundtrack of any imaginery  80s road or teenage rebel movie for a reason. The story about some kind of "Thin Love" is a swinging, more upbeat affair touched by Country, kitsch and some twanging guitars which are built around an Indie'esque chorus, "I Don't  Regret" gets overly dramatic in terms of Rock'n'Roll ballads, "You Can't Hurt Me" finally grabs our attention again whilst picking up on a path the album left after the opening tune, providing some heavy solos and quite a rough, whiskey-soaked attitude and walking through the "Mountain Fog", listening to mysterious background choirs  reveals more of a folksy surprise paired with super solid Rock to which we can fully relate. Letting the listener "Burn As One" we're catered with quite a bunch of proper 80s cliches which totally work, unearthing memories of 'Mad Max' and the smell of cheap gasoline, "Feel The Good" is frolicking in the meadows, bringing back the kitsch aspect again, "We Could All Die Screaming" would make up for a great Rock'n'Roll soundtrack for an adventurous roadtrip into the desert (... or war ?) and the final song "Turn It Into Gold" leaves us thinking about our life decisions whilst sitting on a dusty road, dirty and watching the sun go down in the most epic way before providing  a grand HardRock finale that takes everyone by surprise. Quite a mixed bag of an album, this one, which probably would've turned out better if it had been cut down to a proper six track EP for a reason.

Sascha Müller - Acid Monster (Floppy Totaal Special) [Supersix Records]

Keeping up with Sascha Müller's special floppy disk releases that were only available at Rotterdam's Floppy Totaal v3.0 Festival in early April we're now taking a closer look at "Acid Monster (Floppy Totaal Special)" a three single that's, guess what, focusing on Low Bit Acid from the dark side of the spectrum. The opening tune named "Acid Constructor" operates straight on the border to wildstyle Hardcore and weighs in hard banging drums on hyperspeed as well brain-melting MonoAcid modulations, "Work My 303" is more on a deep, spiralling and Trance-inducing tip and the final "Untitled" cut evokes memories of deep, highly spaced out AcidTrance for those who've been deep into this style throughout the mid 90s. Recommended fodder for all them acidheadz out there.

Anthene - Orchid [Sound In Silence 036]

Incoming from the Greece-based imprint Sound In Silence is "Orchid", the newest album effort by Athene, a solo moniker of Toronto's Brad Deschamps who has been active under this name since 2015 and released music on various imprints including his very own Polar Seas Recordings. For his second, limited to 150 hand-numbered copies album on Sound In Silence Mr. Deschamps unearthes a bunch of seven unreleased tracks from his studio vaults, opening with a sweet fusion of scientific bleeps from the airwaves, similar to what Kraftwerk caters in the intro sequence of "Radio-Activity", and overwhelmingly soft Ambient structures in "Fauna", continues on a similar, yet a little darker path in "Reflected Light" whereas "Flora" keeps things as Ambient as Ambient can be, moving slowly and elegantly like a glacier in the late evening sun, representing the beauty of the genre in the best possible way. Following a beatless "Frozen Path" melodies and pads become more fragile and crystalline, the title track "Orchid" caters 582 seconds of meandering strings and calm, blurred atmospheres for ultimate, autumnal relaxation whilst  "The Laughing Heart" is more of a lecture in heartfelt melancholia garnished with (neo)classical elements than a study in uplifting soundscapes. Finally "Trace" is waving goodbye in a more solemn and grave manner, rounding off an album nicely that's surely meant to please all die-hard Ambient lovers for a reason.

Strotter Inst.- Miszellen [Hallow Ground Promo]

Put on the circuit in late March via the ever busy Hallow Ground-label is "Miszellen" , the latest album by Strotter Inst. who has drawn in attention due to his physical approach to remixing which does not include any work in like DAW's but relies more on both extracting parts and pieces from the original tracks, mostly cut on dubplate and then being manipulated, destroyed, cut, scratched and retreated in a non-linear, partly even chaotic way only to be re-assembled by Christoph Hess a.k.a.Strotter Inst. later onwards. Following this basic principle and work ethics we see Strotter Inst. take care of twelve different tracks of twelve different artists on this longplayer, covering a field inluding acts like Asmus Tietchens, Dälek, Foetus, Beequeen, Nurse With Wound or P16D4. As the nature of his work suggests these  reworks or re-arrangements mostly result in repetetive, hypnotizing and partly Industrial-reminiscing musical structures but can as well become surprisingly ravey like in Aceeh Imnsssttu - yes, that's the letters in 'Asmus Tietchens' arranged in alphabetical order - "Artigst Nach Gutem Changiert" whilst also touching borders of cinematic neoclassical melancholia, or even be harsh and aggressive like in his approach to Beeenqu (Beequeen) "Snijdende Tests".  With Dehin Nor Stuuww (Nurse With Wound) "105 Humorous Print Diseases" the work of Strotter Inst. even becomes slightly ritualistic in a very tense and spine-tingling way. In Giillmss U (Sigillium S) "Juli Enteist Jute" we see score noir'esque piano miniatures crossing paths with darkest Industrial Noize, heavy feedbacks, overall evil as well as captivating slow rhythmic pulses, Efostu (Foetus) "Acid Hang" even crosses over into oriental soundspheres and Ädekl (Dälek) "Seismic Sofa Gang" takes the original Mutant HipHop sound of the group to a new and well-epic level. Interesting stuff, this and defo recommended to those dwelling knee deep in experimental music.

Herva - Hyper Flux [Planet Mu Records 385]

Here we go with a slightly delayed take on one of February's releases from the Planet Mu camp - "Hyper Flux" crafted by the Italian artist and producer Herva who's catering a 53 minutes long twelve track ride with this one. Opening with some kind of "Esotic Energy" the first track takes us straight into the musicians playful yet erratic and unpredictable soundsphere sporting calmly plucked strings, deep Electronica vibes and more of a Plunderphonic-related attitude in parts, "Jitter" follows up with a dancier Braindance vibe combined with cocktail'esque pads perfectly matching the 'everything goes' feel oftentimes associated with releases on the legendary Rephlex-imprint around the late 90s / early 00s and a "Nasty MF" taps into lo-fi, more 4/4 orientated dance beats accompanied by Future Bass-synths and what seem to be Asian percussion elements. Furthermore Herva sets out to "Rule The Sun" by implementing blurry, spaced out melodies and busy Drill'n'Bass-remeniscing beats, inspecting the "Multicone" reveals interesting layers of warm organic Ambient soundscapes and defo one of the albums musical highlights, "Lly Spirals" weigh in a creepy kind of dark'ish PostStep rave feel for all true bass heads and "Solar Xub" provides another deep take on outer space club music from a future past. Riding a "Meta Wave" takes us into a sonic universe of digital distortion, clicks, crackles and cuts as well as kinda blues-y background guitars, "Cops Twerk" to Acid-infused Lo-Fi Rave sounds with a heavily glitched twist and "Peach" serves backwards-running beats and more blurred, fuzzy Ambient structures for tripped out minds. Finally "Dedicated ft. Mar G", the only collaborational effort on "Hyper Flux", once again relies on beats in reverse, this time accompanied by piano romanticisms, Downtempo vibes and beautiful female vocals whilst the final cut "Zykmed" caters pure melancholia on a beatless level, masterly crafted and fused with highly scientific electric buzzes from a sci-fi lab of your choice. Good stuff!

S S S S - Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes [Hallow Ground Promo]

Put on the circuit via the Switzerland-based Hallow Ground imprint earlier this year is "Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes" which is the latest longplay album effort by Samuel Savenberg under his artistic alias S S S S, containing two long tracks created throughout a two weeks artist residency at a place called Südpol in the Swiss town Lucerne. Built from Field Recordings made on location as well as using several sound sources found in and around the building "Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes, Part I" caters a nice, ethereal and well balanced contrast between digital Noize and floating Ambient harmonies garnished with reprocessed, distorted vocal bits of an unsettling kind and futuristic barrage sequences as well as rhythmic pulses through the tracks' second half whilst "Just Dead Stars For Dead Eyes, Part II" weighs in more of a hyperdark approach to grinding Industrial Illbient in hyper slow motion, evoking pictures of worlds falling into pieces before bits of strings and harmonies provide relief after a little more than four minutes, shining like a sonic sun over what's left after the ultimate apocalypse which is even more Noize, metallic clanging and lonely piano melancholia. Intensely beautiful!

Reliq - Life Prismic [Noble Label]

Released on April 15th, 2k17 via the Japanese Noble Label is "Life Prismic", the third full-length artist album by Reliq since this side project of the producer otherwise known as Serph came to life back in 2011. Catering a menu of thirteen highly chromatic, colourful tunes we see Reliq present quite a diverse array of compositional efforts starting with the most playful opener "Glass'n'Beads" with its interplay of calm as well as buzzingly speedy sequences and uplifting, PostRave focused pianos whilst "Ceramic Samba" even weighs in extremely pitched vocals on top of a multilayered, polyrhythmic foundation and "Laputan" gravitates towards an electronic variation of Easy Listening / Exotica which comes across on a kind of novelty tip here. The story continues with more oriental flute vibes, pianos and electronics combined with Drill'n'Bass-references in "Morocco Drive", further into the album "Rain No More" provides a secret late night hit for advanced dancefloors, the "Cold Shuffle" is perfect fodder for all the IDM / Future Garage ravers out there and the "Voynich Soundscript" is as rich, complex and encrypted as its real life blueprint. And there we've come to a point that makes "Life Prismic" a tricky one because as fascinating, rich and well-produced its single tunes might be, listening to them in one session as an hour spanning body of work seems a little too overwhelming and therefore in parts even tiring to us as there's simply too much musical information going on to process, even for trained ears like ours. Which is a pity, kind of.

Biggabush - Melody & Electronics EP [Jahmoni Music]

Soon to come on Munich's finest Jahmoni Music imprint is the label debut of no-one less than Glyn 'Bigga' Bush a.k.a. Biggabush, legendary bass master and founding member of (Neo)Dub staples Rockers Hi Fi who is now setting out to rock the scene with four sparse, well thought out tunes crossing over between classic Dub structures and modern bass music. Opening with "Mangrove Monkey" we're immediately drawn into a deep jungle feel with a lot of atmospheric samples accompanying the bouncy halftime beat and beautifully crafted synth motif as well as an all embracing wave of sub frequencies which makes all original bass headz bop for a reason whilst "Sounds & Blues" goes up a similar alley but presents itself in a more fever'ish, brooding manner and on a little more uptempo tip that will surely resonate with all those following the classic route of Dubstep for a reason. Furthermore there is "Dash Way Com", another deep Dubstep-related affair sporting complex, Electronica-informed beat structures, a beauteous out-of-this-world melody, vintage'esque chords and loads of original Dub FX whereas the final cut named "Footsie Index" explores minimalistic, slowly morphing Intelligent Techno realms for those rather into following a straight 4/4 bassdrum whilst drifting off into a pure, untouched universe of sonic singularity.

Mensimonis - Clone Fever [Opa Loka Records]

Released only recently via Opa Loka Records is "Clone Fever", the first ever longplay effort put on the circuit by Mensimonis, a collaborational project by experimental musicians Radboud Mens and Lukas Simonis who ended up improvising together when they were doing recording and improv workshops for secondary schools a few years ago - a well obscure starting point for a joint venture but sometimes things take off from the weirdest occasions. With four tracks whose titles are as epicly long as their playtimes between 15 and 22 minutes the pair of producers brings us their very own vision of conjunctional experimentalism, following the simple rule of Mr. Radboud Mens taking care of all the sub stuff whilst Lukas Simonis takes over the higher frequencies, mostly based on looped guitars and their evolution as well as manipulation. This said, we see the first track "The Individual Is Handicapped By Coming Face-To-Face With A Conspiracy So Monstrous He Cannot Believe It Exists" - talking long track titles.... - starting out on slightly off kilter improvisations somewhat in between Post-PostRock and Psychedelia later accompanied by continuous feedback loops and droning, Ambient-resembling structures partly evoking memories of Aosuke's legendary "Monotone Spirit" album released back in 2006. With the conspiracy kindling "Few Believe Me When I Tell Them That The Rulers Of This Planet Are Of Reptilian Bloodlines" opens straight on a psychedelic - and possibly Asia- / India-influenced - tip guitarwise whilst a slowly moving low frequency drone and crackling surface noise provide a steady foundation to what evolves into an array of polyrhythmic layers from a single loop, causing brain functions to tilt as it's slightly impossible to process simultaneity of calming drones and scattered chaotic loops. Furthermore there's "Give The Clone A Soul, God Is Watching Over Your Shoulder", a trip into Guitar-based Ambient meditations slowly drifting into a combination of drones and twisted analogue signals like the ones we were once used to when fax machines and cable modems were still in fashion before taking a turn mid-track and catering all fans of electronic experimentalisms with a maelstrom of dizzying frequency modulations and hypnotic loop repetitions. Finally "All Rumours Being Investigated" weighs in a little bit of a lonely, desperate desert feel throughout its intro sequence which leads into an ever growing aggression and intensity in terms of guitar handling, building up to a point not distinguishing between anger and ultimate madness anymore whilst a wall-of-sound adds an additional, pretty much unsettling momentum to the tunes' overall feel until an unexpected climax reveals a huge feedback orgy of sorts that one would rather expect at the very end of a Psychedelic Rock show. Straight up great, this one is!

Jeffrey Roden - As We Rise Up

A beautifully dark, melancholia inducing (Neo)Classical composition taken from Jeffrey Roden's forthcoming album "Threads Of A Prayer Volume 2" which is due for release on May 15th, 2k17 via Solaire Records.

Krumble - Coco Milk

A heavy Dubstep ting, dis! Amalgamating Reggae-infused vocals with futuristic darkness is the way to go with this one.

Dr. NoiseM - The CDr A-B-C: V [Dr. NoiseM Tapes]

Released in late April via Dr. NoiseM Tapes is the "V" sequel of Dr. NoiseM's slowly concluding album series "The CDr A-B-C" which seems to take a quite surprising turn with this album as the long and stretched out intro section of this 77 minutes spanning one track wonder is as fragile and Ambient-orientated as nothing in this series ever has been before. Based on delicate structures of high frequency movements, sometimes accompanied by what seem to be warped but heavenly flutes we're taken into realms of absolute beauty before trails of darkness appear in the form of well known respiratory sounds which provide an unsettling contrast to the brittle melodic fragments which have formed up to this point, transforming into a slow musical sunrise at a later point throughout the longplayers course. But no matter how bright the sonic sun may shine in this very moment, there'll always come a time when the night and the shadows take over and haunting wraiths leave their hideaways to promote their ill-minded spirits. And following this eternal rule we see darkness creeping up closer with every minute, tentatively tackling the overall euphony, lurking and preparing for the final action but still not ready to attack, keeping the eerie tension up until the very last minute. Defo a nice variation in "The CDr A-B-C"-series for sure.

Duality Micro & Peter Hedderley - 8bit Meets Classic [www.evadum.de]

And another one from the deepest floppy disk underground has been coming in recently, this time courtesy of the man known as Manfred Reckers to his friends and parents whilst those deep into electronic music - and readers of these pages - will be well familiar with his musical moniker Duality Micro. Teaming up with Peter Hedderley for this collaborational release we see Duality Micro provide a short, experimental static Noize cut named "Working Floppy" which will be well appealing to all those listening to what comes to live at the very end of the FM dial whilst the artists conjunctional effort "8bit Meets Classic" fuses a masterly crafted dreamy piano line with bits and pieces of classic Electronica structures to a soothing, yet fascinating effect that is highly recommended to all floppy headz that have been following IDM / Electronica from day dot. Check!

Sascha Müller feat. Nora W. - With Love (Floppy Totaal Special) [Sascha Müller Music]

Another one of Sascha Müller's super limited floppy disk releases exclusively available at the Floppy Totaal v3.0 Festival in Rotterdam is this three track single, bringing us tunes in an astonishing quality of 9kbps datawise. Starting out with the 'Original Mix' of "Deine Liebe" we've got a well kitschy take on Piano-driven DeepHouse which could be well featured on German daytime radio due to the use of German Pop vocals - a mixture that sounds pretty hilarious in an extremely reduced bit rate whilst the so-called 'Drum N Bass Mix' of "Feel My Love" is a rolling, Jungle-referencing sub bass affair for true oldskool headz with a heart for a metallic, underwater sound and sweet, atmospheric string arrangements. Finally "I Give You (Original Mix)" brings in some playful and uplifting ClubHouse vibes that could well originate from way back in the 90s... like the format it's been released on. Great fun, good stuff!

1982 - Chromola [Hubro Music]

Released on the ever busy Hubro Music imprint in late March is "Chromola", the fifth album of the trio named 1982 in their ten years spanning career. Consisting of Nils Økland, Sigbjørn Apeland and Øyvind Skarbø the trio uses instruments like violin or Hardanger fiddle, harmonium and drums to create their compositions and even includes classic pipe organs on this one as there were two available when they recorded their album at the Sandviken church in Bergen / Norway. Naturally and given the set of instruments used the music of 1982 meanders beautifully between soundtracks for enchanted glades, (Neo)Classical and medieval-/campfire-referencing atmospheres, bits and pieces of Field Recordings as well as hints of Prog and an inward looking, autumnal overall feel that makes this album a sweet companion for the cold and dark season. If you need to indulge in melancholia and dark red wine on a regular this one's made for you!

Cassar - Battle

A tight, minimalistic riddim for all the Grime headz out there. Check!

Norman Westberg - Jasper Sits Out [Room 40 Promo]

Released in early March via the Australian Room 40-imprint is Norman Westberg's album "Jasper Sits Out" which has quite a bit of a twisted history behind it. Originally self-released by the Swans guitar player as a two track CDr in 2014, then re-released in its original form via the Swiss imprint Hallow Ground as a limited to 100 copies vinyl edition in 2015 it is now available on CD again with an additional bonus track for the 2017 audience interested in guitar-based Ambient / Post-PostRock. The title track "Japser Sits Out" spans an epic 23+ minutes in which Mr. Westberg spreads out a soft, loop-based labyrinth of intricate layers and interweaving melodic aspects to a well soothing and hypnotic effect whilst "Homeset Trunc", the second tune also included on the albums first versions has more of an intense, slightly even fever'ish and ritualistic feel as its melodic, delay-heavy layers are accompanied by a steady, machine-like rhythm evoking memories of heavy duty industrial production lines or steam-run trains later disappearing into a sonic blur whilst carefully picked guitar fragments with a balearic feel shine through meandering delays like the winter sun breaking through thick, grey snow-filled clouds.  Finally the new and previously unreleased tune named "A Particular Tuesday" is more of a calming affair recommended to those following PopAmbient acts like Klimek or the Cologne-based compilation series of the same name and therefore complements the previous original album tunes well as a sweet closing tune. If you're deep into Ambient structures, this one's for you.

Sascha Müller [Super Six Records Extra 053]

Just released via Super Six Records Extra is Sascha Müller's most recent untitled album which brinngs us another  twelve tracks showcasing the unstoppable, vastly creative stream of tunes churned out by the Meppen-based producer on a regular. Going into this offering with "Traumschwingungen" we're floating along deep Ambient / ChillOut vibes before "tRIGGER" activates our club mode without further notice, setting our bodies in motion with hard stomping beats on the fast lane as well as a repetetive, tripped out synth responsible for a proper brainfuck. With "Trippi" the mood changes completely, going back to bass heavy Minimal Funk mixed up with hard hitting Breakbeats and echoes of uplifting Rave stabs, the "UFO" touches down from a planet of DeepHouse densely populated with beautiful, atmospheric chords and the occasional haunting effect whilst "Week Days" are weighing a very special take of IDM vs. playful and friendly analogue bass tones somehow evoking memories of a Plaid vs. Mike Paradinas crossover collaboration that never happened. Starting the "Computer" we're entering a virtual simulation of mid-90s Detroit and its more tool-orientated approach towards Techno brought to perfection by the likes of DBX, "Endspurt" takes the tool'ish, cold and mechanic vibe to highspeed levels and "50000 Motherfuckers" dance their ass off to a mysterious, Acid-infused, Trance-emulating groove and warm, organic melodies that make this tune stand out as the most fascinating, most creative work on this longplay piece for a reason. "A Night In Bankok" obviously means to go a hard to a soundtrack of thrilling Rave-orientated ClubTechno with additional layers of beautiful panorama strings and the "Acid Machine" sets our senses to a high alert mode before an apocalyptic Rave hell breaks loose for all those loving their early Hardcore and Belgium Techno to the max. Furthermore there's "Active", a stripped down and well-hypnotizing Intelligent Techno tool for advanced DJs and the final cut "Afrika Rocks" which is fusing original tribal drums with hard banging HardTechno drums to more of a tongue-in-cheek novelty effect. Interesting stuff, this.
