Buffalo Brothers - Fresh From The Horn [Buffalo Brothers Records 001]

So here we go, getting down with the true Funk. The Manchester-based outfit Buffalo Brothers which emerged from a conjunctional joined-forces gig of various musicians contributing to bands like Trio Valore or The Guillemots taking place in a local pub back in 2013 has recently launched their own record label with their full-on, Funk-fueled eleven song debut album put on the circuit on November 13th, 2k15. Keepin' things on the instrumental side of the spectrum with the exception of the dancefloor filling "Mama's Comin'" we see the rat pack of artists including Paolo Fuschi, Simon Reynolds, Rachel Lasham, Justin Shearn and many others rockin' a nice, hot'n'raw Vintage Funk vibe for a fantabulous night out provided by the killer groove and well sample worthy interlude "It's Been  A While" or the party on fire going on at "Keppel's Basement" as well as going into the deeper, more classy Easy Listening mode with tunes like the sax-led "String Theory" or providing a good, clean and sexy swing with "Metric". This album is nothing but a top recommendation for all those funkadelic folks out there keeping it real since the early days of the genre. Nice one.

POL1Z1STENS0HN a.k.a. Jan Böhmermann - Ich hab Polizei (Official Video)

This is satire but yet it owns more than 90% of German HipHop for a reason. Mr. Jan Boehmermann rocks hard!

Yves De Mey - Adamance

Somewhere in between Clicks'n'Cuts and hyperelectronic, buzzing Rhythm Industrial we'll find Yves De Mey presenting a first glimpse on what's to expect from his forthcoming longplay piece "Draw With Shadow Pens" which is about to be released in early 2016. Highly recommended to all those loving acts like Pan Sonic or labels like Raster-Noton to bits.

Lilly Joel - A Wheel In The Palm of Your Hand (Official Video)

The stunning beauty of 23rd century PostFolk amalgamated with glitch aesthetics and ethereal vocal works - we are struck in awe whilst listening to this most beautiful tune.

Tonga Balloon Gang - EP (Preview)

There's big things gwaaning in terms of bashment bass music. These tunes are larger than any bin. Stuff needs to be played on high volume.

Sascha Müller - Deep In My Soul [SMSM003 Promo]

Scheduled for November 26th, 2k15 is Sascha Müller's forthcoming single "Deep In My Soul" which comes as two track digital release including the 'Original Mix' which fuses deeper minimalistic TechHouse and latin'esque drums with twisted grooves, soft, organic DeepHouse chords and catchy, warped synth works as well as a nice, reprocessed vocal bit whilst the '2econd Mix' is more on a pumpin' 90s Happy House / HardHouse tip and sets not only oldskool floors on fire within seconds. A killer variation with massive stabs and loads of energy which we'd happily play if it was available on vinyl.

Jacob Kirkegaard - Arc [Holotype Editions 004 Promo]

Released earlier this month on Holotype Editions is Jacob Kirkegaard's most recent album effort named "Arc", a re-edited variation on his 2014 soundtrack work commissioned for Carl Th. Dreyers 1928-released silent movie "The Passion Of Joan Of Arc" which, on this longplay piece, has been shaped into two pieces of heavenly droning ambience derived from and created out of contemporary music played throughout the lifetime of Joan Of  Arc - the period between 1412 to 1431 A.D.. Stretched, layered and reprocessed the music of "Arc I" resembles of chorals in a quiet, peaceful and angelic manner, yet remains shifting and refocussing all the time, presenting an endless interplay of lighter and slightly darker harmonies, inseparable like ebb and flood, harmonic as nature and still - especially in the final third of "Arc I" foretelling imminent turmoil and change. In "Arc II" Mr. Kirkegaard continues his journey in a similar vein but sets a slightly darker, more melancholia-inducing note which might be described as post-bloodshed dolefulness evolving into unresting, threatening layers of hissing noises, intense bass drones and siren'esque sounds betokening calamity and further uproar although the approx. 18 minutes piece finally comes to a calmer conclusion again. Defo, and even without the accompanying movie it was initially intended for, an interesting and worthwhile piece for all Ambient headz out there.

The Lumes - Satan (Official Video)

A recommended crossover between raw'n'noisy PostPunk and the cold depression of (No)Wave - all combined, twisted and presented like it was recorded back in the days when these genres originally emerged. We totally love this!

Jürgen Ploog - Tapes Von Unterwegs 1971 -1976 #1

This is one of the most thrilling cut-up / montage works we've come across in a long time. This goes way beyond the idea of Dada, Plunderphonics and Fluxes but adds a whole new meta-level to Spoken Word and travel documentary.  Fabulous!

Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø - Melting Into Foreground [Sofa Music Promo]

To be released on the Norwegian Sofa Music-imprint on November, 20th is "Melting Into Foreground", the newest album effort by trombonist Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø - an approx. 34 minutes piece split in two parts named "Internal Source Of Heat" and the title track "Melting Into Foreground". Whilst the first half explores the textures and sonic possibilities of the trombone as solo instrument going from explosive outbursts to stretched out, melodic and well wistful tones via hushed, atonal clatter into deep, bassy realms we see the title track stroll a more experimental, electronic path, serving a fluttering maelstrom of droning noise and bass heavy distortion, derived and layered from reprocessed clarinet sound, halted by tender, fragile and score'esque episodes of the original instrument, which - played in this form - could easily accompany a theatrical play, before digital Noize is taking over and the story starts all over in a similar vein again. Defo an interesting concept in terms of organic meets digitally processed composition efforts and, due to that, possibly even thrilling for a more classically oriented audience.

Venderstrooik ‎– Trompetter & Klaroengeschal (Het Bedroevende Resultaat Van 10 Jaar Smart En Ellende) [Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse 049 Promo]

The Munich-based underground tape imprint Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse just performed a huge jump forward in terms of catalogue numbers these days and released their cat.no. 049 earlier this month which is Venderstrooik's debut album entitled "Trompetter & Klaroengeschal (Het Bedroevende Resultaat Van 10 Jaar Smart En Ellende)". With 18 tracks rolled out over the whole playtime of a C60 cassette we're entering a diversified world of obscure, lo-fi novelty music slightly in the vein of the legendary projects like Bodenständig 2000 or Yppasswdd Daemons, smashing our heads against walls whilst listening to raw, underground TrackerCore and total dada whilst twisted DopeBeatz are evoking memories of The Dank, Rei$$dorf Force or Timestretch Paradise and the likes of. Going deeper into this album we find good portions of Dutch DIY ItaloDisco, Heroin Rave, Score Noir experiments, super tense robotribe futurism, Mutant SynthWave as well as high energy, lo-fi Rave for fans of Ilsa Gold - see "Jehova Disco Dancing (DrangFaktor RMX)" for this -, uberly perverted Marching Music / Schlager / ***Core crossovers and finally bits of twisted Indietronics and Space Opera on LSD to meet the needs of each and every weirdo out there. If we're asked at some point in time if we've ever come across an album that might be referred to as an musical equivalent to /b/ we might consider to name this one. For many reasons.

DJ Deeon - Interlude 040 (Ashes57 Mixtape Series)

Essential mix for all lovers of things Footwork, Juke and GhettoHouse. Highly recommended!

Duality Micro - gbdits 1 [www.evadum.de]

Another release coming in from the German cassette tape underground is the fresh "gbdits 1" album recently crafted by Manfred Reckers, better known under his Duality Micro moniker to all fans of Chiptune and related styles. With this album stretched out over a bunch of twelve tracks Mr. Reckers explores electronic realms including moony, melodious Ambient Techno, positive yet minimalistic House grooves, seductive TechHouse workouts with a glitzy twist as well as playful novelty tunes and even spiralling, Acid-infused tracks for ecstatic warehouse parties. Furthermore we'll find excursions into what can be best described as Happy 8Bit Techno, floating late night Trance, more storming, braincell wrecking Acid and finally Theme-Song Techno on cuteness overdrive which concludes an interesting musical journey for all those being able to get hold of one of these presumably pretty limited albums.

Merky ACE - Polyphonic Ringtone

Merky ACE nails it on this brand new riddim. Large up.

Slobodan Kajkut - Terrible Fake [God Records 033 Promo]

Coming in from the Austrian experimental imprint God Records is their 33rd release, the latest longplay piece by label head Slobodan Kajkut entitled "Terrible Fake". Split in two parts - "Terrible Fake" and "Terrible Dub" - we see Mr. Kajkut meandering through a world of (neo)classically influenced piano noir improvisations and off-rhythm drum structures with a free, slightly jazz-reminiscing twist throughout the approx. 23 minutes of "Terrible Fake", creating a calm and fascinating theme of smoke, darkness and tension whilst the "Terrible Dub" is an ultimately stripped down, darker version of that featuring one simple, moody piano chord trailing off repeatedly alongside a spooky, Illbient-reminiscing beat that's slowly pulsating in the very background of the mix, providing a droney, time-dissolving feel of eternal darkness and the continuous, unhasty movement of continental drift. Nice.

Sascha Müller [Supersix Records Extra 038]

Released on November 12th, 2k15 is Sascha Müller's next untitled album on his very own imprint Supersix Records Extra which once again caters eleven fine tracks to all lovers of quality electronic music, starting with the hypnotic, gooey AcidTrance of "5 Million Years Ago" stretched out over approx. 8 minutes and followed by the banging, yet slightly tripping, Acid-flavored Techno tune that's meant to "Save The Planet" as well as the deep, slightly psychedelic early morning effort named "Traffic" which is a blueprint for highly functional, yet reduced Techno at its best. "Trouble Short" brings in a bit of cut-up, detailed TechnoJazz attitude on a seductively pumpin' 4/4-foundation, "Vocalism" sets crowds on fire with a fast-paced, ultra percussive tribalist vibe fused with nice organic, analogue House chords and tense, alarming strings whilst "Voltage Controlled" is a massive, spiralling and dry as hell Acid banger for all the purists out there. With his tune "Walk In Spave (Vocal Mix)" Sascha Müller immerses crowds in proggy, uptempo TechTrance but also caters some pretty cheesy melodies and quirky, lo-fi vocals that do a lot of damage to the promising start, "Waveforms" makes up for that in terms of bringing some sweet wobbly bass synths and phonky Minimalism to all underground venues around the world before "Wintersonnenwende" caters some floating Ambient Techno for all sophisticated ChillOut floors. Furthermore we see "Wunschmaschinenmusik" going even deeper in terms of providing warm and embracing underwater Ambient Trance and the final cut "Zone 23" fully zens out on classic Ambient like once served by classic, long time defunct labels like Interference Records and the likes of. Killer tune for a closing of a great album.

Smoke Fairies - Wild Winter [Full Time Hobby Promo]

A christmas album. Usually not the thing we're looking forward to review to but as this is coming from the lovely Full Time Hobby imprint we're expecting things to be different than your usual happy-go-lucky, kitsch-loaden, 'we need to cash in at end of the year' approach and we're proven right from the very beginning. Although the vocals in the opening song "Christmas Without A Kiss" come across as bright and angelic as they could ever be the moody, droney backing that's crossing over into Metal'esque areas indicates that things are about to work out differently here, and the innocent, uptempo Folk Psychedelia of the subsequent "Steal Softly Thru Snow" takes us onto a blurry, well-trippy journey, before the "3 Kings" go epicly wild on your local Indie dancefloor - a killer anthem for sweet nights out. "Give And Receive" goes in for the folksy Pop - thinking Fleetwood Mac here for no reason - with a sweet'n'soft attitude that's also to be found in the more sturdy "Circles In The Snow" which might turn into an alltime Underground Pop classic over time whilst "Bad Good" balances the line between a late 60s feel and a more recent, pretty demanding Garage-y vibe that even incorporates a minimal hint of dirty PostPunk here and there. The albums title song "Wild Winter" is built on a super seductive bassline foundation and fragile synth spheres building up before the deep, dream-driven IndieFolk hits which might also appeal to the so-called DreamPop audience out there, the instrumental cut "Snowglobe Blizzard" brings in a more grave, contemplative flavour reminiscing of wide grasslands and the second to last "So Much Wine" tells tales of drama and violation that do happen more than they should around the festive season before the final song "All Up In The Air" takes a more forgiving turn for a grand finale. This is the kind of christmas album we all do appreciate for a reason. Nice.

480Billion - Songiedas [Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse 026 Promo]

Released only a few days agao via Raketenbasis Haberlandstrasse is the tape album debut of 480Billion, an artist coming from the deepest vaults of the Soundcloud underground. With a whole bunch of twentythree tunes rolled out over the course of 60 minutes "Songiedas" seems to be the musical equivalent of the visual aesthetics of web punk, mashing up Jazz and Noize, dancing along to Lo-Fi Rave and fast-paced 8bit ItaloDisco as well as catering totally trashed out stereo experimentation, Angela Merkel-sampling SynthPop, Amen-heavy DarkJungle and even pure feedback and distortion attacks. Furthermore there's elements of Dada, MJ-citing Rhythm Industrial, bleeped out underground Techno, IDM, Space Ambient with score'esque qualities, Abstract Hardcore and an epic Drone meets Glockenspiel meets bird songs finale that, as this release as a whole, perfectly matches the labels leftfield, off-rules approach towards underground music. Thrilling.

Congo Natty - Jungle Revolution In Dub [Big Dada Promo]

As announced earlier on these pages we'll see the legendary UK producer Congo Natty coming up with a new album in November which is not exactly a new one but a dubbed out ten track retake on his 2013-released classic "Jungle Revolution", a musical approach that perfectly makes sense as Dub and Reggae have not only played an essential role in the musical upbringing of Mikail Tafari, better known as Congo Natty who has been spreading Rastafarian knowledge and wisdom in his tunes from day one, but also are an integral part of the musical DNA of Jungle and Drum'n'Bass culture anyway. And so we experience a new, visionary take on familiar tunes, a thrilling variation that makes up an entirely new album and a journey through many facets of Dub. Dubkasm's 'Dragon Slayer Mix' comes up as heavy a stepper slightly reminiscent of 90s Dub heroes like Kitachi, Sukh Knight's take on the anthemic "Get Ready" fuses violent basslines and rave signals with loads of Dub FX and intransigent groove whilst the "Nu Beginningz (Jinx In Dub Steppa Remix)" is on a fast paced and well uplifting vibe here rockin' both stepping and dubstepping crowds. If you've been following these pages on a regular basis you've already been listening to "Revolution In Dub (DJ Madd Remix)" anyway, Adrian Sherwood's "UK All Stars In Dub" fuses heavy, electronic dubbing with excursions in Drum'n'Bass, the "London Dungeons Dub" created by Young Warrior is more of a sawtooth-ridden, MC-led 4/4-based Dubstep tune for darker hours on the dancefloor, but not shunning away from epic female vocal use and the "Rebel Tuff Like Tuff Gong Dub" crafted by Mad Professor's son Joe Ariwa himself deals with a classical Dub vibe and well familiar technical wizzardry which is about to please all Roots Dub afficionados out there. Furthermore "Jungle Is I And I (Hylu And Jago Future Dub Remix)" combines the musical romanticism of Lovers Rock with clean, well futuristic bass synths and vocalists on fire, DJ Madd's "Jah Warriors In Dub" starts on a more positive tip but turns into a massive, violent stepper crafted for peak time clash abuse before "Microchip In Dub" finally sends punters off into a spaced out and well melodic Dub universe. What a shot - recommended for a reason!

baze.djunkiii Charts 11/2015

01. Leslie Winer / CM Von Hauswolff - 1 [Monotype Records]
After listening to their track "Can I Take Your Order" which has been featured previously on these pages it became pretty clear that this Spoken Word meets Minimal Drone collaboration album is defo one album to add to my collection for a reason. Although calm in nature this longplay piece is of unsettling and disconcerting atmosphere that is intense, thrilling and alarming at the same time and therefore highly recommended. Get!

02. [aniYo kore] - Tally Sticks [Bob Harris 004]
See review for details...

03. Bersarin Quartett - III [Denovali Records Promo]
See review for details...

04. The Sorcerers - The Sorcerers [ATA Records 002]
Defo a great release this is and one that might appeal to lovers of Jazz Noir, Ethio Jazz and even Instrumental HipHop and Downtempo alike. Good and well funky stuff for smoky bars and shady, underground venues in red light districts which also will be loved by connaisseurs and appreciators of the well-acclaimed "Ethiopiques" series for a reason. Get.

05. Memero - Spaety / Ctrl+2 [}m{ 001]
Bleepy 8bit Hardcore and Speedcore for the ill minded posse out there. Originally released on Killbot Records and now re-issued due to public demand. Banging stuff!

06. Tlic - Travelling [Minor Asia]
Tlic recently has become the main source of music to be released on Leipzig's Minor Label and with this release he's exploring the more uptempo side of his music with Drum'n'Bass-reminiscing Electronica / IDM abstractions and sacred Rhythm Industrial / Broken Techno crossovers reminiscent of a darker depiction of music created by artists like Deadbeat or Surgeon.

07. Tlic - Frustbär [Minor Ursa]
Frustrated bear is frustrated. Label stalwart Tlic caters dark, technoid Rhythm Industrial accompanied by haunted, evil sounding lyrics on "... Dass Er Stirbt" whilst "Infected Detention" is more on a dark, yet springy IDM / Electronica tip and about to kicks some butts on hyper advanced late night dancefloors.

08. Nozinja - Nozinja Lodge [Warp Records 252]
Actually the first Shangaan Electro record in my collection and it's defo an interesting journey into new, formerly unexplored sound spheres. Galloping percussions, a pretty artificial, plastic sounding attitude which tells stories of presets used and abused, native African lyrics and a overly happy and often uplifting feel to be found in tunes like "Mitshetsho We Zindaba, "Xihukwani", the epic "Nyamsoro" or the excellent "Baby Do U Feel Me" are the trademark features of the "Nozinja Lodge" and I really hope the wide recognition of this musical genre goes way further than being just a short-lived novelty hype in Western electronic dance music as there's a lot of potential in this.

09. Various Artists - Waschmaschinenfest 2k15 [LIMBS 002]
See review for details...

10. Various Artists - Hafenstrassen Disco Vol. 1 [Bordello A Parigi 042]
Well, ItaloDisco and SynthPop related stuff is not only a secret pleasure as I clearly have a thing for electronic oldskool kitsch, raw synthesizer sounds, preset beats and other glorious trademarks related to these styles as well as Cosmic references which are all to be found on this nice four track 12" which even features a cover shot from a Hamburg-based gay bar as artwork which suits the music more than well.

Dralms - Shook [Full Time Hobby Promo]

Released in early October via the always thrilling Full Time Hobby-imprint is Dralms' debut album "Shook" which is highly recommended to all lovers of intimate and fragile IndieFolk blessed with all timeless qualities one could ever wish for. The Canadian band fronted by singer Christopher Smith serves a well-balanced, yet sparse and transparent instrumentation consisting of  tender, crystalline synth melodies, minimal drumming and Mr. Smiths trademark voice as well as decent, masterly crafted electronics - especially to be found in songs like "Domino House" or the deep turns into spaced out and krauty slow jam "Divisions Of Labour" - which fall into place perfectly and come to life as sweet and lovely, not necessarily obvious earworms that make your head nod for plenty of reasons. Especially the previously released single "Pillars & Pyre" ,  the opener "Usage" as well as the albums title track "Shook" stick out  amongst a many extrordinary songs on this ten track album which easily could double its total play time of approx. 37 minutes without getting tiring at all. Referring to the first half of "My Heart Is In The Right Place" we see Dralms even introduce some dark'ish PostPunk-flavored vibes to their musical spectrum before progressing into synthed out SpacePop, "Objects Of Affections" fools around with 80s bedroom sax cliches and comes up with a surprisingly amazing result regarding to the damage that has been done to the use and abuse of this specific instrument in the past and the raw, melancholia and somehow Portishead-reminiscent bassline of "Wholly Present" clearly has got the vintage blues - a perfect song to listen to whilst sipping on rye and deeply think about the worlds musings. More melancholia but also a little bit of kitsch comes into play in the second to last song "Gang Of Pricks" whilst the concluding song "Crushed Pleats" is another secret gem for all those who love their Indie and Folk stuff right. Absolutely beauteous!
