Erland Dahlen - Blossom Bells [Hubro Music Promo]
Scheduled for release via Hubro Music on August 28th, 2015 is "Blossom Bells" - the sophomore album effort by the Norwegian drummer and musician Erland Dahlen. Within six tracks and 37 minutes Dahlen is creating dark and krauty instrumental spheres on this longplayer, adding layers and layers of various sounds like chromatic blossom bells, various percussions, saw, electronic pieces and unique, custom-built instruments to a scenic, story-telling effect partly filled with silent longing and melancholia but also catering raw and untamed energy like in the slightly aggressive drumming of the Progressive Rock-reminiscing "Pipe" or spaced out, Morricone-like scores provided by the tense and spine-tingling 8 minutes of "Knife". With "Iron" we enter a more threatening, dangerous sonic world in which evil, mutant creatures might be lurking in dark'ish corners, "Hammer" fuses ethereal theremin-sounds with muscular KrautRock and finally the title combines fragile, crystalline and twinkle-toed melodies with military snare rolls to a mysterious, otherworldly effect. A good one for sure.
