If This Is House I Want My Money Back III [Permanent Vacation Promo]

Forthcoming on May 9th via Munich's Permanent Vacation is the third issue of the labels compilation series that is gathering a bunch of twelve producers from the softer - or deeper, if you want it - side of House music and their contributions to the well-responsed and popular outfit.With names like Axel Boman, Mano Le Tough or Kim Brown headlining alongside Hotflush-regular Locked Groove steering the boat that's carrying more producers like HNNY, Octo Octa, Boska and others "If This Is House I Want My Money Back III" serves pretty much what might be anticipated from a compilation like this: mostly melodic, harmless and - especially when it comes to HNNY's "Most Really Pretty Girls Have Pretty Ugly Feet" GuitarHouse fusion - partly unbearably lackadaisical layouts of (Deep)House music which are, although well crafted, not really matching with the writers love for raw, energetic classic House music at all with the exception of Lake People's more dubby and "Doubtful" affair if one takes out the kitsch-loaden strings appearing for no reason in the last third of the track. If they'd play this in a night whilst House Music is on the bill I'd defo be calling for a refund.

The Quasi Dub Development feat. Lee "Scratch" Perry & Lady Ann - Little-Twister vs Stiff-Neck [Pingipung 040 Promo]

Coming up next on the Hamburg-based Pingipung-imprint is the latest musical outing of Luca Fadda and the great F.S. Blumm under their conjunctional Dub-infested conjunctional moniker The Quasi Dub Development which approaches Dub from a more twee angle with handmade variation of Dub presenting a lot of quirky sounds and weird instruments bubbling providing loads of unsual, funny but still Dub-fitting noises in instrumental cuts as well as alongside the appearances of Victor Rice, Lady Ann and all-time legend Lee "Scratch" Perry serving a classic smokers vibe on "Let's Communicate". And although things are getting a little wearisome with the mid-album tunes "Snake Squeezer" and "Yak Attack" the overall feel of the album is a nice one for all lovers of Leftfield Dub, a certain melancholia like catered inthe seriously blue noted "Tschaka Tschak" and overall experimentalism for homelistening.

Fatima Al Qadiri - Asiatisch [Hyperdub Promo]

As these pages have been following Fatima Al Qadiri regularly since she released her still stunning "Warn-U" under the Ayshay moniker it's no wonder we're well excited to announce the arrival of her new album "Asiatisch" via Hyperdub in early May which starts great with "Shanzai (For Shanzai Biennal) feat. Helen Fung" which is nothing less than an angelic cover version of Sinead O'Connor's early 90s uber-hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" in Chinese (???) language, setting things straight for a ten tracks journey dealing with asian influences in Bass Music of any kind. Speaking in these terms we see "Szechuan" coming up with an amalgamation of MythStep and lively, uplifting synth melodies combined with deep and deadly bass assaults whilst "Wudang" cold floors crowds with a huge Instrumental Grime vibe and "Loading Beijing" represents great outerworldly bass spheres warping through space like echoes of a distant planet. And who- or whatever is living on that faraway dirtball, we wanna join 'em for a dance. Same goes for the abstract, stumbling riddims of "Shenzen" which accompany what might be the biggest hit on "Asiatisch" when it comes to lovely, embracing synth layers and Future Love Bass for sunup moments on the most advanced dancefloors followed by the "Dragon Tattoo" as the next primetime abstraction calling out for a rewind or two - transfer the Rephlex brand related Braindance into a vocoder-driven Future Bass context and you'll be aware of what to expect here. Another tune to check out for a reason is the fully beatless but still heavily grooving "Shanghai Freeway" serving a well threating sub nicely contrasting jubilant melodies whilst the outroductionary "Jade Stairs" present a bit of Ambient with Chinese vocals. An 11 out of 10 album for sure.

Sascha Müller And Duality Micro - In The Dark [Psychocandies 022]

Set and scheduled for release this thursday is the latest combined studio force assault of Psychocandies-head Sascha Müller and longtime fellow Duality Micro. Released under the name of "In The Dark" this album is sporting a title well fitting for these six tracks going by the names of "Indum", "Ondum", "Dendum", "Wendum", "Quedum" and "Audum" which, indeed, sound like a perverted form of Latin language. But instead of serving any kind of like ancient knowledge this rat pack fuses dark'ish Acid with loads of lively,  spiralling psychedelia and - talking the first half of "In The Dark" here - a pumping feel only provided by real recorded to tape live jams taking off after a few hours. And these tunes really are ready for take off no matter if frolicking in dark'ish caves or starting from ultra slow motion, progressing into echo-heavy 303-realms or psyched out, squeaking Intelligent Acid trips running for nearly 19 minutes without losing any tension at all. Plus: listening to the electroid abstraction of "Audum" is the final proof  that these two producers truly know their craft when it comes to wandering the thin line between imagination and reality. File under: Acid with expertise.

Da Cruz - Disco E Progresso [Boom Jah Records Promo]

Put on the circuit via the Switzerland-based label Bom Jah Records earlier this week was Mariana Da Cruz' fourth longplay outfit under her band alias Da Cruz that's used when she collaborates with artists like Ane H. and Pit Lee of the former EBM-outfit Swamp Terrorists, Oliver Husmann on guitar, Nick Hürny, Marc Stucki and others. But "Disco E Progresso" is more than a simple single album as it is split in two parts spread over two CDs with the first one named "Bright Side" and living up to this name by spreading nothing but positive vibes with its Brasilian lyrics laid out on top of a wide range of sounds from Ska-influenced Funky Breaks ("Nascer Livre") to heavy Latin Dancehall and Easy Cocktail Listening ("Din Din") as well as grooving but still dancefloor friendly Pop structures or even Drum'n'Bass ("Doralina"). Turning the page you'll find the "Dark Side" on disc 2 which indeed has a darker, more ominous and partly threatening feel to it, especially when it comes to highspeed assaults like the hectic "Cala A Boca", the raw ChemicalBeats rocker "Menino Mau" with its glaring New Wave-reminiscing guitars or the high octane sawtooth bass killer "A Verdade" that'd surely be proper soundtrack for each new GTA game released and is crafted to set dancefloors on fire. Having said this the "Dark Side" is nicely rounding off the albums first part with cold tones and beat heavy workouts which makes th complete package a nice one for those longing for variety. Check.

Teebs - Estara [Brainfeeder Promo]

Recently put on the circuit via Flying Lotus' very own Brainfeeder-imprint is "Estara", the third full length album delivered by Mtendere Mandowa which is better known under the name of Teebs in electronic music circles who is serving a decent twelve track menu within 39 minutes runtime here, mostly based on misty, sweet atmospheres and blurred sound aesthetics which are built on top of beat arrangements ranging from deeper Electronica with a TripHop'ish twist to more tribalistic Post Garage / Future Garage cuts as to be found in "View Point". But no matter if laid back, lively or even fusing Post-PostRock with heavy, more distorted beats as in "Shoouuss Lullaby",  Teebs' music always seems to be cushy and well convenient due to its warm, embracing overall nature and floating feel that sometimes even reminisces of more shoegazing Indietronics provided by artists like Ulrich Schnauss and similar minded people.  Recommended for fans of these, those who love Scanner's 1997-released "Delivery" album on Earache plus - when it comes to tunes like "Piano Months" or "Piano Days" - also a good one to check if you're diggin' the Dub-influenced side of Ambient and Deep Listening Music. Favorite tune here: "NY Pt. 2 (feat. Prefuse 73)" due to its hollow, but uberly compressed bass drums providing a quite unique sound, abstract Phonk and an epicly cozy breakdown before the tune comes to an end.

The Preatures - Better Than It Ever Could Be

Straight up funkin Indie'n'Roll from the other side of the world. Australia's The Preatures are serving a killer with this one that's about to be stuck in your eardrums for quite a while...  for real!

Thomas Janitzky - Nothing Is Said ('Til The Artist Is Dead) [Arbeiten Und Nicht Verzweifeln 002]

The Leipzig-based imprint running under the name of Arbeiten Und Nicht Verzweifeln which roughly translates as "work and don't give way to despair" put its second 7" vinyl out on the circuit just recently and, with this, emphasizes its roots in the art scene with the serving of two songs that are not exactly bootlegs but more slightly manipulated originals, re-edits or whatever one might names these respectful reworks of Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wild Side" which is named "Transformered" here as well as a re-cut of Madonna's "4 Minutes" coming here as "4 Minutes 33 Seconds" paying homage to John Cage's legendary piece of silence. Whilst "Transformered" seems to be a bit sped up in comparison to the original song and playfully adapts the strange vary-pitch effect of shortly switching your vinyl deck from 33rpm to 45 and back which only happens as often as the phrase "wild side" appears in the lyrics the "4 Minutes 33 Seconds" slows down the buzzingly hectic appeal of  Mrs. Ciccone's original created with the help of Justin Timberlake which btw has quite a great video coming accomplishing the tunes appeal and turns it into quite a sexy tune for dancefloors on fire, jam-packed with a crowd feeling the groove and bouncing their bodies to and fro. And although there's no changes other than the change of speed to be found here Mr. Janitzky's recut seems to be more thrilling and functional than the original "4 Minutes". Well done, although I'm sure Madonna won't be amused to hear this.

Dr. NoiseM - Studio Works 3 [Dr NoiseM Tapes]

The still mysterious and anonymously working Dr. NoiseM recently unveiled the third issue of his so-called "Studio Works"-series and, instead of spreading sonic sheer terror with exploding Harsh Noize violence, it seems like the eleven tracks of this album go down a different alley when it comes to structural concepts. Especially tunes like the opening "Schizo" or the "Cortical Stimulator" are dealing with more structed, partly even rhythmic pulses and - when it comes to the last mentioned - with a style that could be described as SloMo Industrial Techno Core covered in whimpering feedbacks and layers of electromagnetic statics. Following up to this the two parts of "Gehirnwellen  Therapie" seem to be taken from the alienating and well-threatening score of some C category sci-fi flic due to their uberly cold, non-echoeing feel. With the eighth track going by the name of "Middle" - a dark'ish,frightening and subfrequency driven piece of muffled, more hollow quality with R2D2'esque bleeps and screeches - we've found one of the highlights of these 60+ minutes of experimental music before "Open The Door" unveils a sonic stampede and an ultimate overkill of sonic information pieces per split second being, without any doubt, the heaviest and most demanding track on "Studio Works 3". Another two to check out are "Pleasure" and "Self Burning" with their HeavyMetal approach, sounding like a heavily distorted feedback of an electric guitar that are surely about to attract long haired, leather wearing types as well.

For real House music lovers there's no way not to dig a good percentage of Chez Damier's production works and these four tracks underline this fact for a reason. Buy blindfolded.

03. Innershades - Toxic Trax [Stay Underground, It Pays 005]
Nothing but House Music at its very best. Sharp, unprocessed hi-hats everywhere, euphoria driven rave stabs like those to be found in "Dexter (87 Mix)", seductive melodies dreaming the night away like in "Lust" or the epic late night ecstasy caused by "Work That" - no matter where you look, this is House on a god tier level on side A. But even when flipping the wax and checking out the banging GhettoHouse aesthetics of  "Circuit", the morphed vocals and jackin' basslines of "Walk The Walk" or the final clap-induced thrill of the raw, uberly functional "Feel" you'll find this to be an absolutely flawless record. Recommended for a reason.

04. The Duke Of Juke - D.U.K.E. / Get Down [Ameise]
Associated with one of smallest vinyl manufacturing pressing plants of the world, Hamburg's Ameise, the label of the same name releases its fourth seven inch record on which the mysterious producer The Duke Of Juke fuses Trapstep with wobbly Dubstep Basslines and vary tempo beats on "D.U.K.E." whilst "Get Down" on the flip fully embraces the crime scene side of Juke with some stone cold Shotgun Phonk calling for lengs and body bags. This is serious.

Love it or hate it, take it or leave it. There's nothing in between these poles when it comes to this white, smoke-marbled four track 12" that serves some ultimately evil "when Acid meets Hardcore" madness created by four different artists. Dropping names we meet Coexsystems, Hammer Damage, Stak Etop and Toysfornoise on this one here - obviously a quadruple pack of producer fully bonkers, seriously drugged and most likely shade-loving for a reason, living in fucked up basements and spending the warm season attending illegal Teknivals happening in abandoned areas to be found in seedy parts of the former Eastern Block. You do even know what the word "Teknival" implies? Really? Actually that does mean that there's a proper chance you're about to like this one. Plus: it means you're nuts. 

08. Virgo Four - E-Series Part One [Chiwax 401]
House Music. Chitown business. Four tunes deep and sexy as fuck with hormone-fueled vocals, the occasional Acid reference and nothing but sweetest chords and melodies spilled allover the place. If you're digging DeepHouse for a reason, you're about to love this 12". Good to see that Virgo Four are on fire again after 25 years after their initial release back in 1989 and a 22 years period of silence in between. Lovely.

10. Scrimshire feat. Heidi Vogel - Everything You Say [Wahwah 45s]
Not that box fresh anymore but only recently added to my crates is this great fusion between Broken House and Future Garage that is the A-side with it's two reworks by LV Deep on which Heidi Vogel's vocals kinda pay homage to the legendary "We Are IE" when it comes to the overall feel and warm, embracing athmosphere although the beats are way more decent, swinging and perfectly crafted for late night lovers floors. On the flip Scrimshire's at the controls with a his so-called "Scrimshire Dub" version riding a syncopated riddim with a laid back feel breathing a proper West London vibe feel that's made for advanced dancefloors and echo connaisseurs. Sweet.

Wrangler - LA Spark [MemeTune Records Promo]

Scheduled for May 5th is "LA Spark", the new album of the triple-headed all star group named Wrangler consisting of Cabaret Voltaire's Stephen Mallinder, Phil Winter of Tunng and Ben Edwards a.k.a. Benge who is releasing this eight track piece via his very own label MemeTune Records. Together they're exploring a cold and clean field of Post-EBM / Industrial that's clearly referring to Mallinder's history in the beloved, legendary and groundbreaking Cabaret Voltaire but with a modernistic, more minimalistic twist that goes, maybe also due to recent recording techniques and technological progressions, way deeper than any CV release ever did. With essential core tracks like "Mus IIC" unveiling spiralling hypnosis appealing to Armchair and Intelligent Techno headz as well as to EBM lovers alike, the dry and dark, robotic vibe of "Space Ace" with its NuBeat bleeps and haunting vocal efforts and stripped down RoboPhonk of "Harder" and the tense isolationist, futuristic and uber-cold Ambient SciFi vibes transmitted from the closing tune ironically named "Peace& Love" "LA Spark" turns out to be one of the rarely appearing albums that are not to be missed for any reason. Absolutely great and timeless.

Fuck Art, Let's Dance! - Atlas [Audiolith Promo]

Put on the circuit only recently via Hamburg's Audiolith Records is the sophomore album of the hanseatic Indie outfit Fuck Art, Let's Dance! which is coming up with a dozen new tracks on "Atlas" as the longplay piece is entitled. Warming up your local club floor with the decent and dreamy title track before conquering hearts with the - kind of - anthemic first single "We're Manicals" that easily fuses intimate Pop moments with a slowly pumping electronic 4-2-the-floor foundation that does not fully cover the swathing haze of megrim that's to be felt even in more uptempo shots like "Deja-Vu",  the A-side's closing tune on the vinyl version and the first one that's firing from all cylinders and driving crowds mad with it's lo-fi'ish bass motif, driving electronic beats, sweetly seducting melody and shout along vocals. Turning the black vinyl to side B you'll find "Those Dancing Days" - the next tune that's made for... dancing. An easy one to guess, I guess, and with its aerial vibe an ideal song for Indie girls to fall in love on the dancefloor.  Following up is "Divided", a ballad reminiscing to cheesy, kitsch-covered 80s Plastic Pop with a more romantic vibe but at the same time serving a more intimate, bedroom feel for a reason. As "Atlas" progresses we see more deep and surely heartfelt IndiePop happening with tunes like "Sense" or the final cut "Talisman" tenderly kissing all fans goodnight. Actually not an album filled with obvious hits with the exception of "Deja-Vu" , but one that'll surely grow on all fans as time goes by.

Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra - Live On Planet Earth [Alien Transistor Promo]

What to expect from a live album recorded by a band project 18 members strong? Anyone without a clue is recommended to check out the "Live On Planet Earth" album by the pretty much unpredictable Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra due to be released on April 11th via Alien Transistor. Covering a total playing time of approximately 52 minutes within six recorded pieces only the orchestra - and it is one for real - explores a musical spectrum as wide as reaching from Ambient and (Neo)Classical field into lively, frolicking and partly Swing-influenced Cinematic Jazz for well busy, heavily climaxing short films shot in oldskool'ish black and white aesthetics that - although from a different planet in terms of music - might well appeal to those who've been digging Gelbart's latest album as well as the kitsch-induced romanticism of 50s film scores, lovers of Easy Listening as well as those craving for intense wild chases of oldskool spy flics which might've been an influence to the free and undeniably live approach of this mega band doing its very special thing right in front of a wowed audience directly reacting to the highly dynamic changes happening on stage. There's cheers and and applause but also awestruck silence when e.g. the fever'ish Voodoo Bossa of "Harmagedon" erupts from the very start and amoks through not less than 13 minutes of highly fueled freestyle craze with more than one twist of madness. And it's this twist that makes even classical music more accessible for those who've never dealt with it before but are finally are laughing their asses off to the well humorous "W. A. Mozart vs Random Generator " which is the acoustic counterpart to weird funny art school'ish silent movies. Sounds weird? It is. But pretty likeable and, due to this, recommended to those longing for something special and unique.
