James What - It Feels Wrong [Poker Flat Recordings 121 Promo]

Recently released via Poker Flat Recordings is James What's latest tune named "It Feels Wrong" which is - although the A-side of my promo copy has been partly destroyed throughout the pressing process - a deep, seductive piece of TechHouse for sexy late night sets including not only steamingly hot vocal snippets but also the sweetest chords heard in a while and an ever changing Chicago'esque synth figure. On the flip Lee Curtiss is on remix duties providing not many but effective changes as adding a darker, rolling bassline, driving claps, a wild pitch-influenced attitude plus speeding up things generally which turns the whole track from late night to prime time. Another track named "In The Dark" is to be found as additional B2 which can be called another sexed-up piece floating on a deeper vibe and providing a more embracing feel, sweet synth-lines as well and nicely programmed tribal-percussions that are steaming up things in the background. Do not miss.

Sascha Müller - Acid In Love Vol. 03 [Super 6 Records 069.5]

Forthcoming on Sascha Müller's very own Super 6 Records is his "Acid In Love Vol. 03" including - what a surprise - three high quality and highly hypnotic Acid tunes that are to be called must haves for all fans of this genre. Whilst "The Acid Man" recalls the era of Phuture both "Rubber Forces From Planet Gum" and "Rubbers Go Home", produced about ten years from now and finally unvealed in 2011, play the field of Mental or Intelligent Acid, presenting a relatively calm but still mind expanding attitude.

Marcus - Lovely Clouds [Chillzone Records]

First of all, this is not the german NDW-/Schlager-guy Marcus now serving his vision of so-called ChillOut- or Lounge-music in its sweetest and slickest form with two tracks named "Lovely Clouds" and "Smooth" here, playing with all cliches and pleasing those longing for music with a specific message which is: non-disturbance. That means TripHop-related beats, sleazy sax, some decent pianos, nice string arrangements or simply BarJazz.

Teshaz - Torch EP [Super 6 Records 069]

Cat.no. 069 of Super 6 Records is Teshaz' tune "Torch" coming up in its original version which is a nice athmospheric Electro- / TechHouse-hybrid with a warm embracing bass hook, epic strings and a sweet, late night quality plus two additional remixes by DJ Nightnoise. His "Good Guy Remix" floats on a deep quite 'troity vibe somewhere between intelligence, melancholia and the functionality of - let's say - a guy like Christian Smith who's rocking dancefloors allover with his productions these days whilst the "Bad Boy Remix" still uses darker, epic strings and amalgamates a deep, trancey, cinematic feel with a mechanical, new wave of Techno foundation popular in clubs like Ostgut or Berghain. Defo an interesting fusion of styles and I'm curious if there'll be more tracks in the future following this path.

WAX UNLIMITED Worries

Friday morning, twentythree minutes past midnight and I'm obviously not playing the scheduled WAX UNLIMITED show @ Klingel 3 that I announced a few days before. How come?
Well, when arriving at the venue they opened up to me that this night would be the last WAX UNLIMITED show for a while as they plan to bring in some new folks to the club DJ-wise - a thing I wasn't worried about that much as I had been thinking about quitting that series before as there hasn't been much developement in the night for a while and, although the whole staff is nice and friendly, the communication and booking structures turned out to be a bit chaotic and also the basic equipment - mixer, turntables and monitor PA - seemed to be decaying and needed a allover replacement. But no matter what, it would've been nicer to know about a final night before. Ready for soundcheck we realized that needle, system and adjustment weight of one turntable had been replaced and after finding a working system plus needle - no adjustment weight still - we found a well disturbing feedback noise coming from one of the turntables that couldn't be fixed, nor could the turntable be replaced so playing vinyl was not possible and Burcin, the owner of the place, took over as he plays digitally. Sorry to those who expected baze.djunkiii & Pjotrek to play, we were not able to do so.

Another thought that comes to mind right now - since a lot of DJs switched to digital I see way more broken or destroyed mixers, turntables and PA systems than before because every drunk newcomer DJ needs to switch jacks, cables or channels to set up his digital system and a lot of people are not really aware of what they're doing or how to do it properly. In vinyl only times there were only three connected parts - two turntables plus a mixing desk - and no-one ever fiddled around with these connections for any reason. That's one reasonable point why those running clubs should consider to book more DJ's playing vinyl only - your bills for fixing your equipment will decrease for sure.

Sascha Müller - Krankenhaus (BRONZE) [SM Traxxx 014]

The next part of Sascha Müllers "Krankenhaus"-series is about to be released soon and once again he presents two ultra-raw pieces of Techno purism for those who know. "Krankenhaus (BRONZE) Part 1" is a hypnotic, evolving, meandering and nearly Trance-inducing piece that could be filed under the flag of Intelligent Techno whilst "Krankenhaus (BRONZE) Part 2" is on a minimalistic and well acidic trip featuring some weird bleeps that will be appreciated by those who love DBX's alltime classic "I'm Losing Control". And who does not?

Writings. Scribblings. Sketches. Abstractions. And Poetry?

Well, sometimes it takes ages to unveal another part of ones artistic work and sometimes there must be a reason to do so. My personal reason is - or was - a can of butter milk that cracked in my bag when I came home from buying some groceries and nearly ruined my sketchbook holding some ideas, sketches, unfinished texts and other creative stuff. No paintings.
Those who follow my musical doings for a long time might be surprised to hear that playing around with language has been a part of my - let's call it - artistic life for quite a while now, maybe around ten years but as I'm far from being a productive writer and the pages are filling slowly only a few close friends have been allowed to read some stuff. Until now and only due to the mentioned incident although I've been thinking about proper ways of publishing for some time. And no, I'm not going to write a book although the idea has been brought up by friends before. But for different reasons.
As I've more artistic and maybe multidisciplinary collaborations in mind some stuff is about to stay in the closet for now but time will tell if there's more meant to see the light some day. Expect some weird, maybe abstract stuff written in spontaneous, kinda fever'ish sessions, or somewhere on the train, the tube, snapshots and dark sketches, expressionistic outbursts I hope you might like, construe, understand or not. For some pieces I'm about to unveal the circumstances of writing or the story behind, at minimum the day or year of writing - the one you're about to read now was written on a train while I was on the road with Lars Lewerenz of Audiolith Records for a DJ-set, not sure whether we were going to or coming back from one but it was defo connected to DJ'ing and travelling. I wouldn't exactly call it a poem although it's formally influenced by poems for sure.

Untitled / written 05.11.2009

my mind's on the road
there's lights on the road
some die on the road
that's life on the road
destroyed on the road
annoyed on the road
there's signs 'long the road
for those who died on the road

mind dies on the road
life dies on the road
dreams die on the road
body dies on the road
love died on the road
deer died on the road
just concrete on the road
and some steel on the road

there's me on the road
feeling thrills on the road
travelling on this road
just for miles on this road
i love life on the road
love hotels long the road
all these people on the road
taking a trip on this road

you see faces on the road
travel further on this road
then they melt on the road
disappear on the road
turn to dust on the road
get sucked in to this road
become a part of this road
which decays.

steadily.

Dagshenma - Zaumi [Electroton 012 Promo]

Like Glitch? Clicks'N'Cuts? Mutant Instrumental HipHop? Or even all of these styles? Then you're well likely to appreciate what's to come via the Nürnberg-based CDr-immprint Electroton on october 21st as Dagshenmas seven track EP "Zaumi" combines the best of the mentioned. A 3" CDr that's coming in a transparent Mini-DVD-Box with a minimalist artwork bringing the conceptual work of labels like Raster/Noton, early Oval or Scape to mind immediately and so does the ultra-digital music composed by the japanese artist Higuchi Eitaro under his Dagshenma-moniker who aims to fuse and amalgamate the traditional voices and songs of the Ainu-culture with what the press sheet describes as "modern electronic music" which seems to be the dominant part here although one can tell that the well alienated and transformed source material might be of a natural or at least non-electronic origin. But no matter how digital and hyper-compressed the sounds get, there's still a dancey, sometimes even groovy and playful edge to most of the tunes - at least if one can relate to a kind of groove in productions by artists like Funkstörung or Autechre, the first mentioned being the more obvious reference point to those not deeply familiar with Electronica as a genre as Autechre usually have a more distorted edge to their work. Whatever, these tracks are made for advanced listeners and cutting edge dancefloors, an audience of those who know and are able to love the fact the "Zaumi" is about to be released as limited run of 150 copies only.

Darkness Falls - Alive In Us [HFN Music 009 Promo]

Well, this is what's to be called a very upfront review as the brand new - and Trentemøller-produced - debut album of the thrilling duo named Darkness Falls is scheduled for october 28th via HFN Music but as whitelabel copies of "Alive In Us" have been already put on the promo circuit all fans of Shoegaze and the PostPunk-influenced, darker side of Indie will be surely excited about this early announcement. So what's to be expected? A vinyl version including a bundle of twelve tracks including three pieces taken off their self-titled debut E.P. that's nicely mixing up the mentioned styles with a lonely desert feel causing an emotional effect that makes even more uplifting, dancefloor-filling songs like "The Void", "Before The Light Takes Us" or the anthemic "Hey!" sound like they're covered in layers and layers of dust. Others like "Paradise Trilogy III" are spooky or haunted and will be loved by those appreciating the slowed-down work of Lydia Lynch or The Slits - if one takes away the Dub-influences to be found in their music - and could well fit into any David Lynch curated soundtrack if ones takes a step further and Darkness Falls' music to the movies. Defo a grower and yet my favorite album for a fall to come.

Subvasion - Lost At Funfair [Major Label 049 Promo]

Also scheduled for september 21st via Major Label is "Lost At Funfair" which the first ever album release of Subvasion, the brand new collaborational project of the Progressive Avantgarde Hardcore-outfit Guts Pie Earshot and the Switzerland-based and heavily Breakcore-influenced female performer L.N/A. So what's to expect from this fusion? A dancefloor storming force of electronic beats ranging from Drum'n'Bass and Dark Jungle to Experimental Unformatted Techno, all instrumental but with a well-recognizable song structure and, most important, accompanied by a wall of dark, epic and nearly cinematic strings which are not only the driving force of all eight tunes but also the very unique element in the music of Subvasion that's not only able to work dancefloors, no matter if electronic-based or even crowded with a Goth-/CyberGoth-audience, but will be appreciated by home listeners and (Horror) soundtrack connaisseurs as well. Not to be missed if you're a fan of outstanding music of any kind.

Der Tante Renate - H4xX02 [Audiolith / Riptide Testpress]

Recently released via Audiolith Records and forthcoming as vinyl album via Riptide is Der Tante Renate's fresh album entitled "H4xX02". Those who're following these pages regularly might have already downloaded the free preview track "Beast" a while ago, a bangin' NuRave-piece ready to tear up dancefloors but still only a facet of "H4xX02" - read: hacker - as this ten track plus: three skits can be called Der Tante Renate's most diverse work musically so far serving slow-motion bangers, epic breakdowns, smashing broken beats that are truly distorted, Dubstep-/Brostep-influences, even some IndieElectro and proper Rock-guitars here and there. A wide variety that's gonna make you sweat, no matter if you hear one of these tracks out on the dancefloor or attend one of Der Tante Renate's forthcoming shows. Plus - if you happen to purchase the CD version of "H4xX02" be ready for some hacking, encoding and finding out about some more encrypted bonus features. This one's for the geeks.
