Dizzee Rascal - Tongue 'N Cheek [Dirtee Stank / Universal]
As announced in many interviews and musically proved with his new album Dizzee Rascal has officially left the Grime and moved on to the next level. Many words have been said and written on this issue by critics and followers alike and there's no sense in discussing whether this step has been made for good or bad but there's one thing for sure. By this decision Dizzee Rascal and his label Dirtee Stank Recordings have come full circle and deliver an album that clearly represents UK soundsystem culture in its entire spectrum, two decades after the so-called hardcore continuum emerged from it. All eleven tracks show off only one specific attitude which is like everything goes as long as it works the crowd, no matter if that's a straight banger like "Money Money", a catchy rip off like "Dirtee Cash" or slower tracks like "Chillin' Wiv Da Man Dem" or "Leisure" that seem to be musically referring to the plastic feel of so-called Black Music of the 80s, especially talking about PhillySoul and similar sounds here. To combine this kind of music, which has been played out on UKs soundsystems back in the days alongside Reggae, Disco and early HipHop, with House and still buzzing Grime-influences on one album, within eleven tracks only shows that this guy has been brought up on nothing but urban music and learned his lesson in history quite well. Die-hard grimeists might dislike this, but whoever wants to learn about urban music from the UK should have a closer look on this one.

Stefanie Heinzmann - Roots To Grow [Universal]
Sitting in my P.O. box as 8-track, double-7" in a gatefold sleeve - sic! - these days was the promotional version of Stefanie Heinzmann's forthcoming album "Roots To Grow". Although her typical german name sounds a little un-artistic at first her music fits well into a niche carved out by the likes of Duffy, Amy Winehouse and related, is perfectly described by the term Vintage and will be appreciated by those who love the music of the mentioned artists. But still, true Soul connaisseurs will recognize quickly that Stefanie Heinzmann is not yet a fully grown Soul singer but a well-talented 18 year old girl which has gotta learn a lot - in detail: the use of vocals is a bit too technical and not that deep and from the heart as they should be. But as they say - time will tell and people grow so I'm curious what's gonna happen to her within a time span of five or ten years in the future.

Shackleton - Three EPs [Perlon]
Shackleton is back. On Perlon - a german label that is well established on what's called the Minimal Techno scene. The master, creator and inventor of MythStep serves a full length album - or is it really a bundle of three E.P.'s as the title suggests? - that, although musically evolved, clearly captures the magic of MythStep and ancient voodoo feel transferred to a high tech world. So what's happening here? It's evident that the use of natural, tribal percussions is still a basic part of Shackleton's groundbreaking musical vision but compared to his former works these tribal elements have now moved from the forefront to the background, building a humming framework for layers and layers of feverish sounds and athmospheres combined with trademark vocals, sampled ethnic chants and abstract, technoid sounds. Those technoid abstractions seem to play a bigger role these days as they've ever done in Shackleton's music and although he's far from being Techno at all it becomes evident why his polyrhythmic excursions are well appreciated by those Techno heads being into the Non.Techno music served by the likes of Carl Craig, Ken Ishii or even Cari Lekebusch or the latest Moritz Von Oswald Trio. For lovers of: MythStep, polyrhythmics and quality electronics.

Nachtlicht - Photon E.P. [Super 6 Records 045.5]
Scheduled fo release via Super 6 Records as their cat.no. 045.5 is Nachtlicht's "Photon E.P." which serves quite a quirky mixture of minimalistic TechHouse and NeoTrance spiced with some filtered FrenchHouse- / Ed Banger-styled-madness. Possibly functional on the dancefloor but defo not fitting for home listening purposes.
Eugene Kha - Jam [Super 6 Goodies 059]
Fresh on Super 6 Goodies is Eugene Kha's seven track E.P. "Jam" which seems to be taken of a jam-session indeed trying to mash up and amalgamate Electronica, Easy Listening / Exotica, DiscoHouse influences and electronic Funk. Sounds confusing and it is indeed - interesting for those who've been following electronic excursions of labels like Harvest or early works of artists like Seelenluft or Computerjockeys but honestly not my cup of tea as I'm not able to get the point of this release due to the fact that it's just too unfocused for me.

Acid Phakist - Acid Phakist E.P. [Säurebad Records 016]
Acid Phakist is a new face in the Säurebad Records-camp and his fourthcoming self-titled four track E.P. adds a few facets to the labels Acid-flavoured musical direction. Influences of deep AcidTrance and classic pumping (Hard)House are to be found here alongside some raw Chicago Basement stuff and bring back a long lost feeling to electronic club music. And btw - the handclaps used in these tracks are sexy as hell.
Sea.Envy - Roots [Super 6 Goodies 058]
Fresh on Super 6 Goodies is Sea.Envy's forthcoming four tracker to be released under the name of "Roots". Musically dealing with a style to be described as mid-90's RaveTechno / -Trance all tracks included might sound a bit retro to a younger audience but for all those who've been there when Rave happened these tunes are about to take you on a journey back in time. Glowsticks & whistles.

Plutonium Pogo Rewound
Just a brief review on yesterdays Plutonium Pogo-event taking place at Hamburgs famous and long running Molotow Club, a night I was really looking forward to but also had a few mixed feelings about coze Mediengruppe Telekommander were playing at Hamburgs Übel & Gefährlich the same night and partly sharing the same target audience & fan base with our live guests Supershirt which were about to introduce their new album named "8000 Mark" forthcoming on Audiolith to their Hamburg fans with this show. But even before we opened the clubs doors trouble started with an incoming phone call of Herr Brandt of Sonnenbrandt-fame who was supposed to do the first DJ-set of the night, saying that he wouldn't make it as his homes attic burnt down throughout the late afternoon. Bad luck and so I headed home from soundcheck just to grab a bunch of classic Acid House-tunes to play out before Supershirt entered the stage. That sound seemed to be appreciated by kids younger than the records I played out and when Supershirt finally started their set the place was already busy and the audience ready to rock to a proper stage show accompanied by funny talks and confetti attacks. A good one for sure, seemingly everybody enjoyed the show but left quickly after live action so there wasn't much of an after show party although we regard that as a basic part of our Plutonium Pogo-concept. Next time, I guess.

Shackleton @ Pudel / Hamburg
It's just been a few minutes since I arrived back home frome Hamburg's infamous Golden Pudel Club where Shackleton of Skull Disco-fame performed tonight. Although it wasn't that packed compared to his last appearance, this due to the fact that this time he was booked on a sunday night instead of a friday or saturday, he made all the crowd dance within a few minutes after having started his set - a nice mixture of classic tracks and red hot material taken off his brand new album "Three EPS" released via Perlon these days. Watch this space for a review on this within the next days as he handed a CD copy of this one out to me. Anyway, once again it was a great pleasure to experience his magical MythStep-variations blasted through a proper PA and, of course, to have a proper chat simply because Sam is one of the kindest, friendliest persons I've ever met on the artist circuit and I always enjoy to see him in person since we first met when I booked him to play @ our Dubstep Nord show back in 2007.
Btw - meet me @ Golden Pudel Club next sunday night as I'm not about to miss one of the rare live performances of the legendary Ceephax Acid Crew in Hamburg

Emil Davydov - Visions Fugitives [Pharmacom Records 054]
Fresh on Pharmacom Records is Emil Davydov's "Vision Fugitives" E.P. , a quite unusual piece for this label as it features a bunch of four short but still beautiful pieces of classical or at least semi- / neo-classical nature, partly performed with real - sic! - instruments or variied with electronic equipment. Check.
LazioKasaa & Alec Cresp feat. Kaithlyn - In Different Memories [Super 6 Records 045]
On the circuit since october 8th is LazioKasaa & Alec Cresp's new single release "In Different Memories" featuring singer Kaithlyn on vocal duties. Released via Super 6 Records there are three different versions to be found here - the main vocal mix is kinda slow, balearic, Trance-like, the kind of epic music u'll find on terrace floors when the sun rises again after a long night. A good one for sure. Furthermore there are mixes provided by Arthur Laber and Sascha Müller, the first mentioned stays with the general feel of the tune but adds a dirtier bassline whilst the labels head-honcho transforms the deep vibe into a more floor-functional piece of Trance that'll be surely loved by true afficionados.

Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Cash [Promo]
Fresh on the circuit is a new one-sided promo copy of Dizee Rascal's upcoming single "Dirtee Cash" which clearly takes advantage of The Adventures Of Stevie V.'s early 90s smash named "Dirty Cash" which was a big commercial success back in the days and hit the charts on number one. Taking the original instrumental as groundwork and spitting on top might not be regarded as Dizzee's most creative move ever but works well and will pay out in form of airplays, heavy rotation and - at least - sales. Call this a party tune and you'll be right.

Tetsuo Hybrid
Talla 2XLC's Tetsuo Records recently established a new sister imprint under the new name of Tetsuo Hybrid that has three releases under its belt so far.
Tetsuo Hybrid 100 is "Dante's Peak" by the master 2XLC himself, featuring a so-called Club Mix and a remix version by Jerome Isma-Ae. Whilst the first mentioned version balances on a thin line between glitzy TechHouse and what might be described as (Neo)Trance these days we see Mr. Isma-Ae acting on a higher tempo and energy level, serving a well-working peak time tool for all those out there spinning Progressive tunes.
Next in a row of three is Tetsuo 101 - Robert Burian's "Orion". This one is on a Trance tip for sure, with banging drums, epic string arrangements and a quite kitschy breakdown that'll be responsible for thousands of hands raised in the air in big room venues all over the place whilst Bert Classen's remix of this tune is on a more subtle and tool'ish level - pure dancefloor functionality. As bonus tune on B2 there's "Viper" to be found, another functional Progressive piece with a nice, glitzy breakdown and a massive build-up. Probably my favorite tune on this 12".
Finally there's Tetsuo 102, another piece by 2XLC released under the name of "Pulse" featuring two remixes by Ruben De Ronder and Manuel De La Mare plus another so-called Club Mix. All three version are about to satisfy the needs of all Trance-jocks out there and will probably do better in the UK just due to the simple fact that the scene over there is bigger and there's more huge venues with big rigs in which these tunes simply sound better than played out in smaller clubs. They need space so give 'em some.

The Dance Inc. Split
Sadness and melancholia struck on my way home from todays Byte.FM Residency where the Hamburg-based band The Dance Inc. officially announced that they've split and this was their last ever show. Although they've neither experienced huge commercial success nor media attention they deserved that means: one of the best and most talented german - if not international - bands is history now. Fact. Sad fact indeed as I've always felt their music big time and for the first time ever I feel affected by a band announcing their split. Despite I knew about their forthcoming announcement a few days before tonight I haven't felt like that since I received an email from London announcing Kemistry's tragic death in a car accident in the late nineties and I feel blessed that I had the chance to play a few shows alongside The Dance Inc. this year.
Thx a lot for lines like this:
