Neuton bankruptcy?

Well, we know that the web is full of rumours and some are there for no reason but there's word that german electronic distributor Neuton is about to announce bankruptcy next week, approximately on monday. Here you can read a post from those runnin' the label Debuger who are talking about this on another platform.

The Remixes Volume 1 [Dessous Classics 01]

10 years on the circuit now, Steve Bug's imprint Dessous Recordings installs a new side kick under the name of Dessous Classics which is about to release some remixes of the labels all-time classics or timeless B-side tunes. On cat.no. 001 we see Manuel Tur reworking D'Julz' "Sulo" into an epic late night tune, Vincenzo's hands on Audio Soul Project's "Reality" delivering a reason to jack your body the Chicago-way and finally Phonique's new pumpin' version of St. Sebastian's "Dirt Bag Dirty Jay" - a package that is not to be missed for any House-addict these days.

Larry Heard goes Cosmic

Believe it or not but DeepHouse legend Larry Heard serves a 15+ minutes dish of Cosmic Disco named "25 Years From Alpha" on his latest E.P. release on his very own imprint Alleviated Records & Music. Quelle surprise.

Trentemøller - Vamp (Kasper Bjørke Remix) / Miss You (Gluteus Maximus Remix) [PWLTD 01]

Well, this one doesn't seem to be an official Trentemøller-Release but looks like a bootlegged piece as it just comes in a black paper sleeve with no official label announced but only a matrix number that could be as well made up. But whatever this one exactly is - for sure it contains two nice, decent tunes that are well recommended to all those loving their deep, pumpin' House music played out in small underground clubs only attended by those who know, by those to be called House music lovers that are happy to be left alone by E'd up trend kids. Kasper Bjørke's remix clearly wins here with a nice groove and sweet cowbells all over the place and makes this one the first Trentemøller 12" I really dig. Ask yr local dealer to hunt this one down for you and you'll see lovely smiles on yr venues dancefloor.

Honeyheads live - pictures online

For all those having missed the Hamburg-based Happy-Go-Lucky-Pop outfit Honeyheads playing an acoustic session @ Meaniebar last night - a gallery of pictures has been put online and can be found here...

A subtle message...

... is to be found on the latest release of Abe Duque Records, which holds the cat.no. ADR60 although the label hasn't released that many 12"es yet and goes under the name of "Don't Be So Mean Part II". Have a look on the centre part and find an etching saying "Digital DJ'ing Is Like Having Sex With A Condom". That's right - it doesn't feel the same.

Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil Wayne - Let It Rock [Cash Money Records]

Cash Money Records are coming up with a quite unusual signing these days as the label is better known for their HipHop than for proper Rock music. But such is Kevin Rudolf's new single "Let It Rock" which is officially released on January 9th, 2009 but out on promo circuit now. Solid mainstream Rock with a stadium attitude and rapper Lil' Wayne is dropping a few lines for street cred. Does anyone need this?

Caracho - Lass Uns Bambi Spielen! [One Eyed Charlie]

Hamburg's local heroes of Caracho recently released their weirdly entitled album "Lass Uns Bambi Spielen!" via One Eyed Charlie and they've come to take hanseatic hearts by storm with an amalgamation of heavy electronic backing, clearly influenced by Big & Chemical Beats, more than only a pinch of Rock and Psychobilly and of course humorous, nightlife and everyday life influenced german lyrics that sometimes refer to Hamburgs red light district with a tongue in cheek attitude. Defo a hard rockin' album, but only time will tell if they can make it nation wide - this might also depend on how many of their ravin' live shows they'll bring to Germany's clubs and stages throughout the next months.

Ohrchitect - EXP-DNB-Set 2008 [Pharmacom Records]

New on Pharmacom Records is Ohrchitect's "EXP-DNB-Set 2008" - an approx. 52 minutes non stop journey into his specific Drum'n'Bass realm which is jam-like, lead by non standard beats and breaks, Electronica influences and some Electro and Downtempo breakdowns. Some will call it Leftfield Drum'n'Bass, some will name it as experimental, which is what "EXP" in the albums title stands for I reckon, and some will refer to it as IDM or DarkJungle rather than Drum'n'Bass. But whatever definition you choose, this one is interesting and defo stands out from what your everyday producer serves on 12" these days. Recommended to open minded people and not to those who expect UK-standards whenever they think of Drum'n'Bass these days.

Stefunk - XXL E.P. [Super 6 Records 36.5]

Recently released via Super 6 Records is Stefunk's so-called "XXL E.P." containg four tracks of high energy Rave Techno made for primetime abuse only. Raise yr hands in the air, blow your horns and get the party started - this one's for true ravers only.

Sascha Müller - 5 min. Acid Warning *The Remixes Vol. 01 [Säurebad Records 010]

Remixes of Sascha Müller's "5 min. Acid Warning" - provided by the likes of Pedro Duarte , LazioKasaa & Alec Cresp as well as Giorgio Gioacchini - are available via Säurebad Records now and is recommendable to all lovers of slightly Acid-flavored pumpin' ClubTechno which is sometimes a bit tool'ish or hypnotising and psychedelic. In comparison it's Giorgio Gioachini who's winning the rat race here as his rework sticks closest to what's called classic Acid with screaming, bubbly 303-lines and a bit of Chicago basement attitude.

Dizzee Rascal feat Calvin Harris & Chrome - Dance Wiv Me [Dirtee Stank Recordings]

It literally took ages until Dizzee Rascal's newest output on his very own Dirtee Stang Recordings-imprint appeared in Germany but now the time has come and this one is defo recommended although the Original as well as the featured Radio Mix are nothing but your usual cheesy average ElectroHouse-whatever that can be found everywhere, apart from Dizzee spitting on top. But the flipside is the one to watch out for as we see both Nightryders as well as Heatseekers Agent X hopping on the Niche / Bassline bandwagon and providing some bassheavy reworks of which Agent Xs clearly wins, but still the Nightryders deliver a solid piece for all the DJ's out there. Check out.

DJ Pablishhh! - Free Time E.P. [Super 6 Goodies 047]

Pablo Roldan a.k.a. DJ Pablishhh! is back on Super 6 Goodies with his "Free Time" - a four tracker that delivers a bunch of excellent, rave-orientated Techno bangers ready to tear any dancefloor up with massive bassdrums, slightly uplifting, hypnotic vibe and a bit of Acid flava. Proper stuff that I'd love to hear a 3 a.m. through a 15K rig.

Akon - Right Now (Na Na Na) [SRC Records / Universal Motown]

Put on the promo circuit these days via SRC / Universal Motown is Akon's new 12" "Right Now (Na Na Na)" which is to be named nothing more but a quite cheesy HipHop/DigiSoul-tune on top of electroid beat and nothing special at all. But: move your turntables pitch bend to the maximum of +8 if you're into GhettoBass stuff and try to blend the high speed version into your sets - sounds like some fun.

Wolfgang Raspe - Black Hole Growing [Super 6 Records 036]

Wolfgang Raspe comes up with a new overlength album on Super 6 Records entitled "Black Hole Growing" which contains nine tracks of deep Techno as well as some hypnotic Electro workouts that would've fitted well into the genre of so-called Intelligent Techno in the mid 90's, a genre that that got lost somehow and is - at least by me - deliberately missed on todays dancefloors as we need an end of boredom and conformity in contemporary electronic dance music. And we need more DJ's with balls out there to bring this excellent sound back to the clubs. Buy and play this.

Frittenbude - Nachtigall [Audiolith Records]

Heavyweight ElectroPunk meets TechnoRap anarchists Frittenbude see their excellent album "Nachtigall" scheduled for november 14th, to be released via Hamburg's most upfront imprint Audiolith Records. Killing everyone with bangin' sing-a-long anthems like "Superschnitzellovesong", "Elektrofikkkke" or "Hildegard" - yes, this one's referring to Hildegard Knef indeed - this album is to be called a must have for hipsters, party animals, NeuRavers and progressive Indie Kids as well as for open minded PunkRock afficionados - all of them are united on the floor when Frittenbude are on stage, rockin' the house as seen last friday @ Hamburg's Übel & Gefährlich where they transformed the crowd into a nice moshpit with their rockin' beats and slogan'esque lyrics. Bang that beat.

Chris Cornell - Part Of Me [Interscope]

New on the circuit and put out as 10" promo via Interscope is Chris Cornell's Timbaland-produced tune "Part Of Me" taken from his recent album "Scream". Fusing solid Rock-influenced song writing on top of slow, electronic beats on the edge of House and Minimal Techno this one will work for mainstream radio as well as for club DJ's - especially the Instrumental cut will be loved by all those jocks spinning (Neo) Disco and Cosmic these days. Check.

Dubstep - Split Into Fractions?

One topic discussed within Germany's Dubstep-scene these days is the question whether it's good and healthy or not to name different sub-genres and directions within the musically wide ranged sound that is called Dubstep today. Despite the fact that world scenes leading figures as Mary-Anne Hobbs or Paul Scuba still proclaim that "everything around 140 bpm and with a bad-ass bassline" might fit into the name of Dubstep I think that these days the genre of Dubstep has come to a point where it's impossible to squeeze all different sub-styles into one set anymore, we're not talking about a whole night set here, and the musical differences and gaps between the likes of e.g. Shackleton, Martyn and Skream have developed up to a point that, apart from approx. 140 bpm and a big bassline, they've not very much in common no more so we - or the artists themselves - should name what we hear. Having different names / sub-genres under one roof that still could be called Dubstep must not necessarily lead to a total segregation and seperation or, which is the worst case scenario a few afraid are talking about recently, a total split of the scene - this is what we've learned from genres as Drum'n'Bass where different genres as Liquid or TechStep or Clownstep or whatever are still accepted as a part of the whole and although there are people that do only listen to one specific sub-style of Drum'n'Bass as there are such in Dubstep as well this is not caused by names for sub-genres but by personal preferences.
In today's Dubstep we see mystical and ancient music influences as it goes for Shackleton and his specific MythStep sound, we see influences of Detroit Techno as in Martyn's tunes, rave & wobble all over as well as pure Reggae / Steppers-influenced tunes, some Post UK Garage-beats as delivered by TRG, more Electronica-like stuff as Burial and the whole Hyperdub-camp and lately some bootlegs with a slightly commercial and party banging background that make Dubstep more accessible to those who haven't hopped on the bandwagon until now - we saw that latest development in UK Garage, BigBeat or Drum'n'Bass before and realized it is a kind of natural progression that happens along the way.
Taking all these different influences and sounds and realizing that there are enough releases on the circuit so that everyone is able to listen to "his" or "her" preferred Dubstep vision without denying that it is Dubstep at all talking about different styles or sub-genres will not destroy any scene or doing no harm to what those being afraid want to protect. It will still be one scene, one movement, one whatever - one scene that has started from scratch and built a blossoming family tree of different styles that are - hopefully - leading to something new and unheard. This sound to come might not match with those who've been around Dubstep from day one - this goes for myself as well as I'm mainly bored of today's releases compared to the excitement of late 2003 and 2004 - but that's natural as well and as genres or styles develop into the future there are always people that come and people that go away. This hasn't killed Techno, it hasn't killed Drum'n'Bass and it won't kill Dubstep as well.

Impfgebiet Tollwut - Seuchenherd B [Pharmacom Records]

Pharmacom Records recently released part "B" of Impfgebiet Tollwut's "Seuchenherd" trilogy - which is a 16 track album similarly weird as part "A" which was reviewed on this page not too long ago. A mixture of strange Electronica, some Wave-influenced lyrics, Ambient as well as Mutant Folk- / Mutant Country-influences are to be found here, presented in a quite lo-fi and - that's for sure - depressive way that somehow reminds me of early, late 90's releases on Dhyana Records. Defo not a record that should be played out to children or ppl with suicidal tendencies but this special morbid athmosphere makes "Seuchenherd B" an interesting release, recommened to advanced listeners only.

50 Cent - Get Up [Shady Records / Interscope]

Fresh on the promo circuit is 50 Cent's new 12" "Get Up", released via Shady Records / Interscope and taken from his forthcoming album "Before I Self-Destruct". Strictly aiming on the dancefloor crowd this one's to be named as heavy banger featuring quite epic fanfares and driving beats, but what's missing for sure is the sparse beat structure we all loved in 50 Cent's earlier tunes that left enough space for his voice to unfold. This one's allright though, but compared to what he has served before only an average release with a short half life.

D.H.S - House Of God * The Poker Flat Mixes [Poker Flat Recordings 100 Promo]

It's been 20 years from now since the Dimensional Holofonic Sound or D.H.S. as the project of Meat Beat Manifesto's Ben Stokes is commonly known released the instant Techno classic "House Of God" which is now put on the circuit again to celebrate Poker Flat Recordings' 100th 12" release. Yes, that's three digit now and a big achievement within the music industry, especially for an independently run label. Three versions are to be found here - Phonique is coming up with a nice, partly jackin' tune that features ultra-dry bassdrums and a huge warm bassline embracing everyone dancing, Martin Landsky turns the whole thang into a deep, hypnotic tune, adding up some nice athmospheric samples and a bassline referring to the Munich- / Moroder-era and - last not least - we'll have D.H.S. himself delivering a 2008 update, as raw and hypnotic as the original version and defo one that still is granted to rock anyone out there, no matter if brought up and the Techno sounds of day zero or just expploring the scence as a youngster. Get. Buy. Quick.
