Adultnapper - Duration E.P. [Audiomatique Recordings 035 Promo]

One to check out for all lovers of the deeper shades of so-called Minimal Techno is Adultnappper's forthcoming "Duration E.P." which is cat.no. 035 of Audiomatique Recordings. "Madeleine", already teased on Steve Bug's "Bugnology 3" compilation, on the A-side seems to be a bit tool'ish at first but develops into a nice late night tune with featuring a lot of sweet, trippy and hypnotic sound wizzardry as the tune progresses - maybe not your obvious peaktime choice but drop this one at 5.30 a.m. and see what happens. On the flip there's "One Room" in its original version and remixed by Gregor Tresher. Whilst the original mix provides a warm, organic feel balancing on the thin line between melodious Minimal Techno and modern, contemporary DeepHouse, Gregor Tresher's version adds a more metallic and forward pushing flavor, some sharp hi-hats and kinda happy, more active hookline that fits well for buzzing crowds.

Umek - Intense Emotion E.P. [Audiomatique 034 Promo]

Put on the promo circuit these days is Umek's new "Intense Emotion E.P.", which is cat.no. 034 of Audiomatique Recordings and contains three stunning tracks that'll cause intense emotions on this worlds dancefloors for sure as they're - no matter which one is your personal favorite - perfect examples of what the term Club Techno means in 2008. Forward pushing, exciting, uplifting and euphoric sound with massive impact, only to be played out to peaktime crowds willing to brock out. Top notch.

Sascha Müller - Telecontrol / Network Exit [Chillzone Recrds 007]

Chillzone Records is about to release their cat.no. 007 these days, which is Sascha Müller's two tracker "Telecontrol / Network Exit“ and probably the best release on this label so far. Both tracks are dealing with Ambient as a genre in the sense of well respected artists as there are Oval, Pole or Senking mixing bass-induced, partly drone-influenced soundscapes with repetitive and hypnotic Clicks'n'Cuts, referring both to our urban, technological environment as well as to the warmth and comfort of a mothers womb. It's quite a pity that these tracks will not be available on vinyl as these are the best and freshest Ambient tunes I've heard in quite a while.

eVADE - Putzi E.P. [Super 6 Records 035]

New on Super 6 Records is eVADE's "Putzi E.P.", featuring the tracks "Putzi One" and "Putzi Two" that will be well appreciated by all those loving deep Minimal Techno with a warm and slightly melodious attitude as well as "Hannover" , a track that goes even deeper, leaves out the straight 4/4-bassdrum and seduces advanced audiences with a touch of 'troitish melancholy and electroid structures. One to check out for sure.

Kulture - Diesel / Lost Emotions [Disfigured Dubz 003]

The Disfigured Dubz-camp comes up with their third release these days and it's defo a good one. Whilst "Diesel" on side presents a extraordinary mixture of shuffled Halfstep-beats, deep melancholic string arrangement and a forward pushing midrange stabs that are about to set dances on fire immediately, "Lost Emotions" on the flip clearly is paying respect to Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - at least when one listens to the lovely bassline closely. This one's giving me the goosebumps as I still love all those 80's Wave sounds and harmonies so "Lost Emotions" is to be named as favorite track here.

Raveline, adieu...

After nearly 8 years of contributing record reviews for german print magazine Raveline today I finally decided to quit and leave the team of freelancers due to several circumstances that shall not be explained in their very detail here. But, to be honest, these circumstances made me think about quitting for quite a while now although I always saw my work for the magazine as chance to promote leftfield, weird and pretty underground music to an audience, to readers not that experienced and - this goes for at least a part of the magazines regular readers and electronic music lovers - living in the countryside, quite away from urban areas and due to that away from the next recordstore where they could find and explore exactly this kind of music that is not featured in bigger articles, in the playlists of major list DJs or in Beatports or Junos top 100. To recommend music that you have to dig for deeply, to teach youngsters at least about a small part of the electronic underground has always been my mission when selecting what to review for the next issue and I'll defo hope that someone will take care of that in the magazine's future. And I'm not very happy about quitting at all. But, as this era ends for me, this also means that I'll invest more time into my own weblog nitestylez.de which you're reading right now - so keep feeding me with promos and see your stuff reviewed here.

For all of those who're able to read and understand german language here is a bunch of reviews I wrote for Raveline within the last weeks but that haven't been featured in any print issue yet. Alphabetical order.

(Esperanza 010)
4 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Anarchi3 / Middle M (Necrosociety 004)
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Break / Fierce / Nico - Empire / Draw (Quarantine 008)
Fein.
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

DJ Mujava - Township Funk (Warp)
6 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Echo Echo - The Vampire Empire E.P. (Echo Echo 003)

Ohne Frage verdiente

Egotronic - Egotronic (Audiolith Records)
Macht Spass.
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Frittenbude - Nachtigall (Audiolith Records)

6 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Kulture - Diesel / Lost Emotions (Disfigured Dubz 009)
Dicke
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Paradox - Incubate / Black Sun (Paradox Music 018)
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Shackleton - El Din (Part One)
Mordant Music - Olde Wobbly (Mordant Music 024)
Dicke
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Shackleton - Remixes (Scape 055)
Zweimal Shackleton im Remix. Auf der A-Seite verarbeitet Stefan Bethke a.k.a. Pole "Shortwave" von der jüngst veröffentlichten "Soundboys Suicide Note E.P." zu einem für ihn typischen Dubstep meets Electronica-Hybriden, während Peverelist auf der Flipside "You Bring Me Down" in ein durchaus interessantes, perkussiv-experimentelles Technokorsett presst und mit dem Einsatz eher dünner, hohl klingender Bassdrums auch in Sachen Sounddesign ganz eigene Pfade beschreitet.
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Shackleton - Soundboy's Suicide Note (Skull Disco 010)
6 Point (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Sonnenbrandt - Gestern (Anna Logue / Kernkrach / NLW)
5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Uakti - Can't Run But / Rhythm Of The Saints (Laposer 002)

5 Points (of 6) baze.djunkiii

Virus Syndicate & Various Production - Apollo / Neva Argue (Planet µ)

Must have.

Moon 44 - Reason To Forget / Only For You [Chillzone Records]

Chillzone Records is back with a new two track-release straight out of the studios of Moon 44. Whilst 'Reason To Forget" is to be filed under the classical - and defo nice - Piano Ambient flag with its quite relaxed and chill mood "Only For You" fuses kitschy Piano melodies and Trance-induced arrangements with what was once called Chemical Beats , an amalgamation that is not for your everyday dancefloor experience but might work well on special occasions.

Impfgebiet Tollwut - Seuchenherd A [Pharmacom Records]

Another strange release from the Pharmacom Records-labs , strange as a term not only fitting when it comes to the weirdo name but also to the music as all four versions of "I Want Your Body" featured on this one seem to be produced under heavy narcotic influence of some, let's call 'em simply "substances". I defo don't have a clue what happened to the minds of T. Bothe and W. Raspe while they wrote the quirky Electronica version, the kinda Mutant Folk or Mutant Indietronics-based so-called "Long" mix or the other two versions but at the time of writing this review I'm not too sure if I ever want to find out.

Klee - Berge Versetzen [Universal / Island]

Recently put on the promo circuit via Universal / Island are the club remixes of Klee's new single "Berge Versetzen". Both remixers, as there are Oliver Koletzki and Einzelkind, transfer the original tune into a 4-2-the-floor context that is about to work well with Pop-loving crowds but is a bit too cheesy for me. Einzelkind's remix is the one ftw here as it refers to classic, now oldskool'ish, uplifting House that was quite popular somewhen in the mid-90's.

Egotronic - Egotronic [Audiolith Records]

Two years after their last longplay album "Die Richtige Einstellung" Egotronic are back with a new one, once again unleashed on Hamburg's number one ElectroPunk-outfit Audiolith Records. Still they're not willing to fit in any mainstream templet, but fuse dirty electronic beats, slogan'esque lyrics with partly political, left-wing flavored lyrics and a anarchic party attitude until there's no one left standing still. This is positive moshpit music of 2008 and defo checkworthy, even if you don't get the lyrical point as their native tongue is german.

Virus Syndicate & Various Production - Apollo / Neva Argue [Planet µ]

Finally Manchester's Virus Syndicate is back on Planet µ and this time they've teamed up with Various Production to deliver a must have, top notch 7". Whilst "Apollo" is a sweet R'n'G / Rhythm'n'Grime tune that might gain some major broadcasting attention even due to is excellence, "Neva Argue" tears up dances wit heavyweight beats that've gotta be filed under the Industrial Grime-flavored flag. My 7" of the month.

The Sonic Boom Foundation - Solar Kid E.P. [Velocity Sounds Records]

Although I seriously doubt that this makes sense when it comes to sales numbers The Sonic Boom Foundation is about to release their "Solar Kid E.P." these days as enhanced CD, featuring four tracks from their recent album plus a World Domination remix of "Sound Of The City" and an additional video of the same track. Undoubtedly their Rock'n'Rave-attitude is fresh and uplifting for sure, but I totallly can't see the point why someone should by this E.P. for these two extra features when one can get the full album with more tracks for a few extra bucks. For die-hard fans only.

Spillsbury - Sturzflug [Raboisen Records]

Hamburg-based imprint Raboisen Records comes up with the next Spillsbury single these days which is released under the name of "Sturzflug" these days. Accompanying the original track that has to be filed under the flag of ElectroPunk meets kinda rock'ish attitude we'll find remixes by Azzido Da Bass, a quite weird Dubstep rework by Phokus plus two other additional reworks that transfer the tune into a club context and will be played out to more commercial audiences throughout the next weeks but as well will be forgotten a few weeks after. Not as strong as their first takeout from their recent album.

The Sonic Boom Foundation [Velocity Sounds Records]

To be released on October 31st is The Sonic Boom Foundation's self-titled album on Velocity Sounds Records and they've learned their lessons well from stadium-rave acts like Underworld, Crystal Method and The Chemical Brothers as well as several Indie- / NuRave-acts who're literally setting stages on fire these days. Pure high octane energy fuels all of those twelve tracks featured on this album that seems to be a direct adrenaline injection and causes massive headbanging instantly from the first note blasting out of the speakers. But anyway - transferring live performance energy into a 50+ minutes album is not an easy thing to do so listening to "The Sonic Boom Foundation" in one go unveals that their song structure is a bit formulaic and - as the tracklist goes on - a bit exhausting at all. A few slower tracks here and there would've done good just to ease things up as your living room is not the festival stage this sound is made for for sure.

Prinz Pi - Gib Dem Affen Zucker [No Peanuts / Universal]

Seems like more and more german HipHop-artists discover the seductive dancefloor vibe of ElectroHouse these days and so does Prinz Pi with his newest 12" "Gib Dem Affen Zucker". Whilst the original version is on a GhettoBass-/GhettoTech-influenced tip and defo the one ftw, both featured remixes by Rampa and Coppers come as glitzy ElectroHouse-reworks and are about to work crowds of all sorts well. Check this one out.

Mix Tape Culture.

Yes, all of those remembering old skool mix tape recording and trading habits - talking cassettes here - might find a new home @ Die Kassette in Leipzig. The main concept of this bar / cafe is plain and simple - drop by, have a drink and you're allowed to take one of the hundreds of mix tapes featured on the wall home - as long as you replace it with a new one. Great idea.

A few copies of my now defunct Intrauterin Tapes-imprint are going to appear there soon, as Alex Dreyhaupt of Phantomnoise Records promised me to pass by and leave 'em in that lovely place. Might be next week or the week after, so make sure you'll find 'em.

DJ T. - After Dark [Poker Flat Recordings 099 Promo]

Thomas Koch - better known under his DJ T. moniker - is finally back on Poker Flat Recordings with his double-A side 12" "After Dark / Before Light" which is cat.no. 099 of this well respected and highly appreciated imprint. Joining production forces with Ian Pooley - a musical force within the German and international scene as DJ T. himself - he serves two hypnotic, ever evolving peaktime cuts that refer to the more experimental side that was to be found within the Techno / TechHouse movement in the mid- and late-90s, a time that seems to be gone for ages nowadays, but still manage to keep their sound fresh and on cutting edge standards. There's jack, there's rave, there's claps, there's some tribalistic percussion and there's thrill - guess this mixture makes this one so exciting and one to stick in my box for ages.

David Durango - Striptease [Dessous Recordings 084 Promo]

Dessous Recordings continues its everlasting string of releases with cat.no. 084 these days which is a three tracker by David Durango going by the name of "Striptease". Despite Mr. Durango explores deeper shades of House music here, especially when it comes to the title track, this one can not be filed as musically thrilling as his former releases on Poker Flat and will work best as tool for late night / early morning crowds. Not as essential as one might expect from a Dessous Recordings release.

Shackleton - Soundboy's Suicide Note [Skull Disco 010]

Finally it's time for the amazing Skull Disco-imprint to unveal its tenth release and add another step to the evolutionary ladder of the genre now known as MythStep which takes the consumer even deeper into Shackleton's specific universe of sound, formed of deepest basslines, ritual and ancient drum settings plus - this is new - the use of quite mystical lyrics, not only as sampled snippets as on former releases but as essential part of a track like the great "The Rope Tightens" that might be named as the main track on this 12" not only due to its length but also as it quite seemlessly blends into the following "But The Branch Is Weak". Another obvious thing to be pointed out is that the dancefloor approach seems to be further away than ever - same as in his latest output on Mordant Music - at least when it comes to the mentioned tracks on side A, whilst "In The Void" and "Short Wave" on the flip are the tunes dancers on advanced floors can groove to under bass hypnosis. Once again Shackleton delivers essential pieces of art and so this is another must have for all lovers of high quality electronic music.

Modern Walker & Urban Absolutes / Boris Fox [Ladies & Gentlemen 004 Promo]

Recently put on the promo circuit via Phonique's very own Ladies & Gentlemen imprint is this split 12" which is about to turn heads of electronic dancefloor connaisseurs and Cosmic- / SpaceDisco-lovers alike as it delivers a fine amalgamation of these two genres. All tracks - including Ilja Rudmann's remix of Boris Fox' "Inferno" on B2 - are on a deep late night tip and spread sparkling SynthDisco vs. DeepHouse-vibes all over the worlds dancefloors to my, your and everyones pleasure. Nice.

08.10.2008 baze.djunkiii presents: Technovision @ Byte.FM

file under: Deep- / MinimalTechno

Rosenstolz - Gib Mir Sonne *Tobi Neumann Mixes [Whitelabel Promo]

Just hot in my inbox today is this whitelabel promo that provides two Tobi Neumann remixes of the recent Rosenstolz hit "Gib Mir Sonne". Although the vocal version is - once again - a track that doesn't do anything to me as I still don't like the female voice I gotta admit that the instrumental cut on the flip side is a proper, slightly trancey tool, well useable in a MinimalTechno context where it does no harm and keeps the crowd moving. Not essential but one I'll play out every once a while.
