Aphex Recordings have recently put out Nika D's - of Virus Syndicate-fame - new tune "Felt The Need", which is an excellent blueprint of what all that Rhythm'n'Grime-business is all about. Featuring MRK1 on production duties plus features of DJ Absurd of Resofantom and Poet Shado this one combines wobbly minimalist Grime beats, sharp spitting and a more Urban-flavored chorus that brings in a specific R'n'B-flavor matching with underground dancefloors as well as for daytime airplay. Top notch tune, that is yet to be named as future classic that'll stick in every grimeists box for centuries.

American producer Starkey comes up with a new one-sided 12" on Lo Dubs under the name of "Dementia" which is told to be limited to a whole of only 400 copies worldwide and to be a sought after plate soon. Representing the stateside view n this genre with an ultraslow mover, that takes care of a style marriage of Mutant HipHop and darkest HalfStep Grime "Dementia" is about to literally kill dancefloors with nerve grinding bleeps and techy bass sounds that seem to be influenced by pre Neurofunk Drum'n'Bass. Will be flying off the shelves of any store quickly...

Another to make it into the crates of Dubstep- as well as grime-DJ's is Halo Beats 004, Landslide vs. Slaughter Mob's excellent "Splurt"-tune that is backed by a even darker Skream-remix on the flip with a massive cold'ish scifi-bassline ready to devastate dancefloor. As The Bug's "Jah War" this one will be on heavy rotation and do a proper primetime job although it ain't that heavy and agressive as the before mentioned. Watch out.

The Coconut Wireless debuts on Moonbootique Records with their new 12" named "Get The Fuck Up" - a floor functional ElectroHouse-tune that is about to work crowds properly due to its basic simplicity and straight tool'ish attitude. Although neither the original mix nor the remixes provided by Robosonic, The Havana Boys and Saint Pauli are about to win awards for representing innovation in electronic dance music they'll make DJ's happy who spin in front of a "willing to party"-massive ready to get wild.

Joel Mull's "Sunny Hills E.P." has been released on Audiomatique Recordings these days, a three tracker of a decent, dreamy minimalistic approach that neither denies Mr. Mull's harder tech-flavored history nor easily fits into set standards defined by purists. Years earlier the term TechTrance wouldn't have been far away as all tracks have a warm, hypnotic touch and trancey vibes due to their string arrangements and / or at least floating, ever modulating sounds alongside pumping, dancefloor focused beats which keep the crowd moving throughout a long night,

Dessous Recordings reveal St. Sebastian's "Drunk Lover" as their cat.no. 072, which comes around as a raw, stripped-down-to-the-bone tune of a Chicago'esque flavor. Slow, dark'ish and sexy as the original tune is it is meant to lyrically set small steamy clubs on fire and to make hot girly horny when played out in the small hours just before sun dawns and due to this to be treated as an essential weapon in every DeepHouse-related jocks collection. German act MyMy is responsible for remix work on the flipside and adds a bit of melody and speed to the whole thang and transforms the whole tune into a quality piece of minimalistic Techno, a vibe on which B2 "Snow White" is as well, maybe the most primetime'esque tune on this disc as it combines a darker, more dangerous vibe, oldskoolish House-basslines and an absolutely thrilling hookline arousing dancefloor climax within seconds. One to watch out for, one to get.

Longplay love 52.0

Wolfgang Raspe's new longplayer named "DJ Kicks" has been released as cat.no. 029 of Supersix Goodies, a ten tracks collection that is clearly influenced by the sound of uptempo Detroit as the likes of Mr. Jeff Mills or Gary Martin amongst others provide. All tracks serve an analogue kind of energy featuring crude, uncut percussion works and raw sound aesthetics like all tracks have been live recorded on tape and, after that, directly fixed on this disc without any additional mastering. Those who've been addicted to Techno since the very beginning of this movement surely will love that, others might be a bit astounded.

As it seems to be tres chic to use the prefix "post" to define musical genres let's use a mixture of PostWave, PostPunk, PostSynthPop, PostWhatever for The Dance Inc.'s new LP "Legs And Arms" which has seen release on Audiolith not that long ago. Apart from new versions of their well-known and appreciated tracks "Catpurr" and "Looking Like That" - last mentioned astoundingly even better than the original version - there's another bunch of nine tunes that'll perfectly fill the gap between club floor, Indie-discotheque and a Pop'ish attitude that might even generate some radio airplay without adapting to any mainstream conventions at all. Blueprint of what's the meaning of quality Pop in 2007.

Ipecac Recordings are about to relase Qui's new album "Love's Miracle" on August 31st, serving a kind of anti-groovish blend of Punk-, Metal-, Rock- and Noise-influences in a total bunch of nine tracks ready to irritate ears with their awkwardly shaped high voltage structures. A drumset that seems to run against the grain, distorted guitar trickery and despaired vocals somewhat between earth-bound, whiskey-driven Southern Rock-attitude and drugged out insanity are the main ingredients to this piece of avantgarde music that eludes itself from any rating as it is too artsy and special to be judged upon.

Parts in the post, pt. 67

Henry Stamerjohann and Denis Karimani team up as Henry & Denis for "Catabolism", cat.no. 070 of Dessous Recordings, a deep but still epic tune that will stand test of time as a late night anthem about to hyper crowds with a slow build up and slightly trancey approach. Efdemin's rework on the flip sets its main focus on a 'troity bassline workout, that soundwise reminds me of the catchy phrase used in Octave One's "Black Water", adds a pumping House vibe, forward pushing hi-hats plus a hypnoticly transformed melody that even goes deeper than the original tune does and, due to that, shares a vibe with the additional "Retrousse" featured as bonus track on B2.

Taken straight off his "Good Idea"-album Phonique comes up with his new single "Casualities" on Dessous Recordings featuring Erlend Øye on vocal duties. A-side sees the tune remixed by DeepHouse meets Disco don Morgan geist of Environment / Metro Area-fame which adds his special personal note - hypnotic, deep and flavored by some retro'ish tones of from the heart happiness. The second remix - apart from the original version as well to be found on this 12" - is delivered by the man Phonique himself, serving a fat, quality bassline workout ready for wrecking primetime floors.

Poker Flat Recordings just released cat.no. 002 of their new White Series, which is Matthias Heilbronn's "The Jungle Dub E.P.", a release that shows the lesser known, deep Tribal-orientated side of this producer, who is well-appreciated for his works in vocal-induced GarageHouse. Both tunes fuse dark rolling progressive drums, long athmospheric build-ups and a bit of anthemism that'll soon establish them as excellent primetime weapons in the case of many jocks - no matter if their preferred style tends to be Minimal, Tribal, TechHouse or even trancey Progressive. Check.

Straight from the Ghetto - News on HipHop, pt. 27

All Reggaeton-headz watch out for Daddy Yankee's recent 12" named "Impacto" released via El Cartel Records / Interscope which seems to be a sureshot floorfiller in the forthcoming weeks. Beats are solid and accompanied by typical Reggaeton-style chants, the remix even features Fergie on chorus duties, but - as so often - the instrumental version is the one that wins the race.

Pharoahe Monch appears on Universal Motown with his Twist-influenced new 12" "Body Baby" that is kinda strange and will leave the hearts of most HipHop-addicts untouched. But for all SpeedGarage-afficionados there's the excellent "Count Of Monte Cristal & Sinden Remix" to be found on A2 that's about to kick ass on the floor due to its thrilling beats, wobbly bassline and fake rave tricks. Purchase only for this mix.

Universal / Island have put out the newest Pachanga-12" on the circuit these days named "I Don't Like Reggae-ton" which is - as one might easily guess - a commercialised version of the long gone summer-hit "I Don't Like Reggae" from back in the days. Of course this one - same as Pachanga's Maxi Priest-rework "Close To You" - is one for the masses and hasn't any underground'ish intentions at all but will be heavily aired on daytime mainstream Pop radio instead. I'm not the one to judge this as the tune somehow puts a smile on drunk girls faces, but I do doubt that it'll last longer than a blink of the eye.

Berlin based Dub- / Reggae-outfit Tiger HiFi transferred Madonna's uber-hit "Music" into a laid back summer'ish tune of the same style recently, which has been promo'ed via Universal / Island throughout the last week. The 12" features another version of Kelis "Milkshake", Missy Elliott's "Give It To Me" plus the additional "Music"-riddim - all of them not as strong as Tiger HiFi's excellent and well-appreciated cover of "Smooth Criminal" and not a must have at all, but helpful if you playin' out in front of a non-Dub-/Reggae-socialised audience.
