House: ursprüngliche Definition für „The Music They Play Down The House“, gemeint ist in diesem Falle der legendäre und längst geschlossene Warehouse Club in Chicago. Heute Dachbegriff für ein weites Spektrum diverser Spielarten elektronischer Tanzmusik zwischen Deep-, Acid-, Chicago-& ElectroHouseüber weitere Abstufungen bis hin zum musikalischen Hybriden SpeedGarage, der in bestimmten Szenen auch unter dem Begriff BasslineHouse gehandelt wird.

Doch anstatt sich in musikalischen Spitzfindigkeiten zu ergehen und sich nur einem spezifischen Stil zu widmen, stellt das W.A.H. Kollektiv in der Nacht des 9.3. den Obergriff in den Mittelpunkt und präsentiert mit der ersten „OUR HOUSE“ eine Reise durch sämtliche Facetten des Genres, die dem Publikum vor allem eines bieten soll:

Niveauvollen Sound jenseits jeder Nerdiness, maximale Abfahrt in familiärem Ambiente und vor allem eine intime, neuentdeckte Location, die bisher trotz 100%iger Kieznähe den wachsamen Augen des elektronischen Feiervolkes weitgehend verborgen geblieben ist.

Leipzig’s finest Breakcore- / Fakecore-imprint Phantomnoise Records is finally back after a long time of silence with Arrebite’s “Bicuda E.P.” , a six-tracker of what they call Break’n’Roll as it refers to Breakbeats as well as to Rock structures, produced by two guys from Brazil alongside their MC Diamondog. Imagine a freestyle mixture of ***Core – the name’s up to u, readers - , a bit of Beastie Boys entertainment and the anarcho attitude of so-called Baile Funk taken to a heavier level. Like that? Get that.

Offshore Recordings are coming up with their 19th release these days, which is essential for all lovers of high quality Drum’n’Bass. The A-Side sees Fracture & Neptune taking things back to the good old Virus days with their tune “Ups & Downs” – a minimalistic tool to be filed under the term of TechFunk. Proves that it doesn’t need more but spooky sounds, sparse on point basslines and a danger zone athmosphere created by droney strings to work the dancefloor properly. No drop focusing here or bullshit curlycueing, just stripped down to the bone music that defo is about to stand the test of time anyhow. On the flip there’s Macc providing a nice trilling bit of Drumfunk / Choppage named “Wrong To Perfection” for a more club-orientated audience, willing to follow the path of precisely edited beats and mad – well, not that mad but still tricky – FX through a night out. Featured by Metalheadz‘ DJ Flight on her show on BBC 1Xtra, so be ready to find some quality grooves pressed up here.

Mazi Namvar ak.a. Audio Soul Project is responsible for Dessous Recordings' cat.no. 067 named “Enter The Night”, a recommended three track E.P. balancing between pumping DeepHouse and more minimalistic, techy approach. While title track “Enter the Night” convinces through a smokey, ever repeating male vox that puts the dancefloor crowd into a hypnotic state of trance, B1 “Sarabbath as well as B2 “No Exit” rely upon stripped down but still slightly sparkling arrangements strictly made for late night clubbing.

You being a fan of smooth, silky beats with Ragga- , HipHop- and DigiSoul-influenced vocals on top? Then listen up and defo check out Channel Two's newest album named "Artful Time Reduction" which has been released by Kajmere Sounds recently. The duo soundsystem travelled the world to record this album featuring a broad variety of vocalists like Patrice, Slim Kid Tre of The Pharcyde-fame, Kim Hill, Joy Jones plus many more and deliver a whole of 13 sexy tracks to be filed under high quality adult entertainment. And no - we not talking porn here!

Young Buck’s new album “Buck The World” is announced for march 2007 and the first teaser 12” is out on the circuit right now featuring two tracks taken off it for DJ-club abuse. A-side “Get Buck” is a dark slow tune based on a bassline figure quite similar to the well-known “Godzilla” main title, while “Haters” on the flip represents a more releaxed attitude beatwise and will be used as instrumental tunes not only by HipHop- but also by Downtempo- / TripHop-jocks.

Yes, the musical chameleon named Gwen Stefani is not necessarily known for being involved in HipHop / DigiSoul but as her new single “The Sweet Escape” , taken from the album of the same name, is closer to this kind of urban sound than anything else it well fits into this column, even more as it features a remix by Konvict with singer Akon on vox. Original tune is a swinging, shuffled Pop-song that works well in Bashment / Freestyle sets I reckon.

Grime r_port vol. 16

Boka Records have seen their eleventh release not too long ago and once again provide high class material for Dubstep dancefloors. The Others are on production duties here, delivering two massive tracks. Whilst “Hear Dis Style” could be filed under the slightly ridicilous and well made up sub-genre of Happy Halfstep due to his ultra positive attitude and jumpy bassline figure spreading an anthemic, rave-like vibe seldom seen on Dubstep floors, “Underworld” comes up as a baaad metallic sci-fi tune which, not only due to it’s score’esque intro, begs for several rewinds instantly. Warped bassline terror plus dark string arrangements alongside a quickly accessible, recognisable signal and a massive, junglistic Amen interlude are about to destroy dancefloors. What they call it in London? Disgusting!

On whitelabel these days – cat.no. TRIM 001 - there’s Trim & Wiley’s legendary battle tune “Boogeyman” that has been performed live billion times before when Roll Deep’s been on stage throughout the last years. Anyone seen dem man live will ever remember that massive punchline “I’m not scared of the Boogeyman I scare the Boogeyman” on top of Wiley’s beats which are for sure larger than life. On the flip we got Trim a.k.a. Trimson a.k.a Trimba showcasing a few of his performance 16bar lyrics on top of a slightly melancholic halftime beat, letting other MC’s know why he’s one of dem dopest grime vocalists around.

One of the biggest Dubstep-tunes out on 12” these days is MRK1‘s “Never Warned” which has seen release on his own imprint Contagious recently. Based upon a well known Reggae-influenced vocal hook from back in the golden days of the Jungle movement and accompanied by slow, grinding beats plus a kind of ravey signal that – melody wise this is - as well appears as bassline figure the tune is to be recognised immediately after a few seconds, no matter where being played and by whom. Beggin‘ for a reload. Flipside features Skream’s remix of MRK1s “Plodder” , a tune that’d better be left unremixed as Skream cannot add anything to it but transfers the whole thing into a completely new context which doesn’t have a lot in common with the darkness of the original tune , that has been out on whitelabel for a while. B2 “Eye Of Ming” is a proper one again which fuses asian, especially chinese, influences and sounds with slow, darkish Dubstep.

Longplay love 45.0

The Kilimandscharo Dub & Riddim Society, an Austria-based multi national as well as multi cultural project musically dedicated to an amalgamation of Jazz, Dub and AfroBeat-influences, is about to release their new album "Last Flight From Rwanda" via Boomslang on march 23rd. As one might guess from this musical fusion all tracks are 100% organic and come up with a freestyle attitude and live jam session character rather than being complete meticoulous compositions which makes them even more interesting for musical connaisseurs. How important the live aspect is for The Kilimandscharo Dub & Riddim Society's work becomes even more obvious on the featured bonus-CD named "Welcome To The Village", a six track live recording from Jazzit Salzburg 2006 which lasts for about 70 minutes, stretching single tunes up to 18 minutes length by adding certain componets, solos and musical ornament and curlicues. Not to miss.

Pure brutality and hate is to be found on "War Of Attrition" , the newest output of DeathMetal-band Dying Fetus that is piped for release on Relapse Records on march 9th. Only recommended to those being stuck deep in the intangible depths of ultimate darkness and sick thoughts this one is maybe the most extreme album I've come across in 2007 up to this date and I seriously doubt that it'll be topped easily talking terms of mental music and vox.

Comeback Kid's long awaited album "Broadcasting" is scheduled for release via Victory Records on march 16th - an eleven track milestone when it comes to straightforward Melodic Street Hardcore / Metalcore. Anthemic structures, powerful chords and singalong choruses of incredible energy guarantee 100% satisfaction for all lovers of the genre. Skatepunks as well as pure Hardcore headz are about to highly appreciate this stampede of approx. 30 minutes playing time focusing on only the pure essence of Hardcore / Metalcore. Defo one to check out on the day of release.
